Since launching her campaign in April, Hillary Clinton has given a number of platform setting speeches across the country. Clinton and Sanders Discuss Immigration during Democratic Debate from Florida

On Wednesday evening, Hillary Clinton and Bernie Sanders took part in the eighth Democratic Debate live from Miami, Florida. The debate aired on CNN in partnership with Univision and The Washington Post and was moderated by Karen Tumulty, Maria Elena Salinas, and Jorge Ramos. Clinton and Sanders were asked tough question about immigration reform. Clinton defended her position of enforcing the border, but giving people who are currently in the country a clear path to citizenship. She also attacked Sanders for not supporting a immigration reform bill in 2007.

Clinton focused on immigrant families saying that she promised to “knock down barriers” for everyone, especially in the realms of employment and housing. Other topics that came up during the debate were the Republican opposition, newly renewed relations with Cuba, Clinton’s use of private email during her time as Secretary of State, and the 2011 attacks in Benghazi. Clinton Interviewed in Colorado

While Hillary Clinton was in Colorado on Tuesday, she was interviewed by the Denver CBS affiliate. Shaun Boyd asked Clinton about many topics including the closure of the prison base at Guantanamo Bay, Cuba. She said, “I have as secretary of state supported the closing of Guantanamo and did everything I could to move prisoners there back to countries that would take them, but I’m not going to prejudge whatever the president proposes because I think we have to weigh all the pros and cons, and I want to see what his plan is.” You can watch the full the interview by CLICKING HERE.

Clinton Calls for End to Cuban Embargo

Hillary Rodham Clinton gave a speech at Florida International University in Miami today in which she said, “It’s time for [GOP] leaders to either get on board or get out of the way. The Cuba embargo needs to go, once and for all.” Clinton called on Congress to vote to officially end the Cuban trade embargo. She also called for increasing business with Cuba and Latin America in general. The United States has a record of looking east and west as part of its foreign policy, but does not look toward Cuba and Latin America.

Clinton Releases Cuba Statement

Today, President Barack Obama announced that the United States and Cuba would begin to exchange in normal diplomatic relations and that he would push for further reform of the US-Cuba policy. With the news came the release of prisoners in Cuba and the return of prisoners to Cuba. This included the release of Alan Gross, who had been imprisoned for five years.

While this move has been met with with some criticism, it is something that Hillary Rodham Clinton has called for. In her book, Hard Choices, Clinton called for an updated strategy in regard to Cuba. She released a statement tonight supporting this move stating:

“I am deeply relieved by Alan Gross’s safe return to the United States, and I support President Obama’s decision to change course on Cuba policy, while keeping the focus on our principal objective — supporting the aspirations of the Cuban people for freedom. It is great news that Alan is finally home with his family, where he belongs.

As secretary of state, I pushed for his release, stayed in touch with Alan’s wife, Judy, and their daughters, and called for a new direction in Cuba. Despite good intentions, our decades-long policy of isolation has only strengthened the Castro regime’s grip on power.

As I have said, the best way to bring change to Cuba is to expose its people to the values, information, and material comforts of the outside world. The goal of increased U.S. engagement in the days and years ahead should be to encourage real and lasting reforms for the Cuban people. And the other nations of the Americas should join us in this effort.”

Council on Foreign Relations

Hillary Rodham Clinton made an appearance at the Council on Foreign Relations in New York. At the event, the primary topic was Cuba. Clinton spoke about ending the embargo on Cuba that has been in place since 1962. She said, “I think we should advocate for the end of the embargo. We should advocate for normalizing relations and see what they (Cuban officials) do.”
