Hillary Clinton Addresses NABJ and NAHJ Joint Convention

On Friday, Hillary Clinton addressed the National Association of Black Journalists (NABJ) and National Association of Hispanic Journalists (NAHJ) Joint Convention in Washington, DC. During her speech, Clinton spoke about the importance of the press in the 2016 election, especially as Republican Donald Trump has limited press involvement in his campaign and pulled credentials from publications that are critical of him. Clinton said, “Now I think journalists have a special responsibility to our democracy in a time like this. It’s a badge of honor when Jorge Ramos gets thrown out of press conference for challenging Donald Trump. Or when another news organization gets banned for reporting what he says.” Clinton also answered questions posed by several reporters while she was on stage. A number of topics were covered including the election and the FBI’s investigation into her emails. A video from the event is below.

Clinton Campaigns with Warren Buffett in Omaha

On Monday, Hillary Clinton traveled to Omaha, Nebraska where she was joined by billionaire businessman Warren Buffett. During his speech, he called out Republican Donald Trump for his questionable business practices and bankruptcies. The focus of his attacks on Trump, however, was the fact he has not released any of his tax returns. He told the crowd that Trump isn’t afraid of his financial practices, but he is afraid of what the American public will think of his finances. He said, “You’re only afraid if you’ve got something to be afraid about. He’s not afraid because of the IRS, he’s afraid because of you.”

Clinton then took the stage and spoke about a number of the same issues she covered during her convention speech last week. She pledged to improve both higher and early childhood education systems, build the middle class by increasing the minimum wage and adding more higher paying jobs, and she promised to invest in the country’s infrastructure creating jobs in the process. “If we invest in infrastructure we’re going to put millions of people to work, and we’re going to lay the foundation for new jobs,” she said. Clinton argued that rebuilding the nation’s infrastructure and investing in alternative forms of energy will make the United States the clean energy superpower of the world. DNC Wrap-Up: Day 4

On the final night of the Democratic National Convention, everyone awaited the acceptance speech of Hillary Clinton. Clinton was introduced by Chelsea Clinton, then a short biographical video was shown. She then took the stage and spoke about her vision for the future. Her vision is one of growth and prosperity for the nation and all Americans. She offered a plan that is in stark contrast from the vision presented last week during the Republican National Convention. Clinton criticized Donald Trump’s characterization that he alone has all the answers and can solve all of America’s problems. She said, “Americans don’t say ‘I alone can fix it.’ We say, ‘we’ll fix it together.'”

Clinton’s speech was more personal in nature as she reintroduces herself to the American people. She spoke about her mother, daughter, and grandchildren and what has driven her throughout her career. The reason for her dedication is quite simple: public service. The DNC’s biography video and Clinton’s speech focused on her public service experience including many things that she has done without fanfare. Overall the speech was a more personal message than we typically hear from Clinton. She was filled with gratitude for her supporters, emotion, and energy for the long campaign ahead. The final night included a number of other key speeches including addresses from Representative Nancy Pelosi, the Women of the Senate, Representative Joaquin Castro, New York Governor Andrew Cuomo, Pennsylvania Governor Tom Wolf, Khizr Khan, General John Allen, Senator Sherrod Brown, and a musical performance by Katy Perry. Chelsea Clinton introduced Hillary with a personal speech full of stories form her childhood and how her mother has been there for her, and how she is always available for her grandchildren. DNC Wrap-Up: Day 3

Wednesday night’s events at the Democratic National Convention included the acceptance speech of Senator Tim Kaine as the party’s vice presidential candidate. In his speech, Kaine thanked his family before “humbly” accepting the nomination. He spoke about Hillary Clinton’s experience and why the 2016 election is vital for the country. A video biography of Kaine and a video of his speech are below.

Speakers from the evening included New York City Mayor Bill de Blasio, Reverend Jesse Jackson, former Maryland Governor Martin O’Malley, California Governor Jerry Brown, Senator Chris Murphy, Gabby Giffords and Mark Kelly, Former Secretary of Defense Leon Panetta, and Michael Bloomberg. The headline speeches from the event were from Vice President Joe Biden and President Barack Obama. Biden gave an energetic speech supporting Clinton while President Obama gave a stirring speech in which the overall message was America is better than Donald Trump. The DNC released another set of videos highlighting Clinton’s long career, attacking Trump, and presenting an alternative to the Republican vision of America’s future.

DNC Wrap-Up: Day 2

On Tuesday evening, the second night of the Democratic National Convention in Philadelphia made history by officially nominating Hillary Clinton as the Democratic Party’s candidate for president. Clinton becomes the first female candidate to receive the nomination of a major political party. Clinton made a brief appearance via satellite from New York and thanked everyone for their support. She will officially accept the party’s nomination during her speech on Thursday.

In additional to the historic moment, the evening also featured another marquee night of speeches. Those taking the stage included Former Senator Tom Harkin, Virginia Governor Terry McAuliffe, Senator Chuck Schumer, the principal and students from Eagle Academy, Former Attorney General Eric Holder, Senator Barbara Boxer, Representative Joseph Crowley, Mothers of the Moment, former Governor of Vermont Howard Dean, and actress Meryl Streep. The most powerful speech of the evening was delivered by President Bill Clinton. He focused on he and Hillary’s relationship and personal life. He called Hillary “the best darn change-maker” that he has ever seen and said that she will fight for everyone and does not back down from a fight. DNC Wrap-Up: Day 1

Last night was night one of the Democratic National Convention, and it was a packed event! The night was filled with speeches from Representative Nancy Pelosi, Representative Elijah Cummings, Hillary for America Campaign Manager John Podesta, Senator Jeanne Shaheen, Senator Bob Casey, Senator Kirsten Gillibrand, Senator Al Franken, Senator Bernie Sanders, Senator Elizabeth Warren, and Senator Cory Booker, and many more. The headliner of the night was First Lady Michelle Obama who delivered an impassioned speech supporting Hillary Clinton, and she firmly said, “I’m with her.”

Senator Sanders, Clinton’s rival for the party’s nomination, spoke in an attempt to unify the party behind Clinton. Sanders said that while he understands the disappointment of his supporters, it is important that the party unites and defeats Republican Donald Trump in November. He said that Clinton understands “the real problems facing this country and has offered real solutions – not just bombast, fear-mongering, name-calling and divisiveness.” Videos from a number of key speeches are below and all videos from the event are available on the DNC YouTube channel.

The DNC also featured several videos highlighting Clinton’s career and attacking Trump’s divisive attitude. With the two videos below, the DNC highlights Clinton’s commitment to combating substance abuse while the other video highlights Trump’s use of outsourcing as a business strategy despite his call for American made products.

Hillary Clinton Addresses VFW Convention in Charlotte

On Monday, as the Democratic National Convention begins in Philadelphia, Hillary Clinton was in Charlotte, North Carolina where she addressed the annual Veterans of Foreign Wars (VFW) Convention. Clinton vowed to reform the Department of Veterans Affairs to fix the backlog and bring the technology into the current century. She promised that she would not privatize the VA as others have suggested. During her speech, she also went after Republican Donald Trump (who will address the WFW convention tomorrow). She criticized his “me” mentality saying, “You will never hear me say I will only listen to myself on national security.” Clinton also went after Trump’s statements about a number of our key allies saying, “I believe in standing with our allies. Generations of American troops fought and died to secure those bonds. They knew we were safer with more friends and partners.” A video of Clinton’s speech is below.

Clinton then spoke an organizing event for local volunteers. She fired up the crowd by continuing her criticism of Trump’s policies and rhetoric saying, “I don’t know how you run for president of the United States if you spend all your time trashing the United States.” She called out his divisive attitude saying that America is better off when everyonore works together and shares in it’s rewards. As the DNC kicks off, Clinton promised that the Democratic Party will offer an optimistic view of America while offering solutions to the problems facing the country. Watch Clinton’s speech below.
