Clinton Speaks at the National Urban League Conference

usa-electionHillary Rodham Clinton spoke at the National Urban League Conference in Fort Lauderdale, Florida. Clinton spoke to a group of African-American leaders right before Republican presidential candidate Jeb Bush, and she took full advantage of it. While she did not mention him by name, she called out his record on race relations by calling out his campaign slogan and PAC, “Right to Rise.” Clinton said, “People can’t rise if they can’t afford health care. They can’t rise if the minimum wage is too low to live on. They can’t rise if their governor makes it harder for them to get a college education.”

She also spoke about the excessive use of force by law enforcement when confronting African-American suspects, and the continued issue of race discrimination saying, “We can’t go on like this. We are better than this. Things must change.” The full video of Clinton’s speech is below.

Clinton Address National Council of La Raza Conference

Hillary Rodham Clinton addressed the National Council of La Raza Conference in Kansas City, Missouri this afternoon. During her speech, she built upon her economic speech from earlier in the day and referenced the economic inequality in the Latino community. She promised to fight for better economic opportunities and comprehensive immigration reform.

Clinton was not the only Democratic presidential candidate to speak at the conference. Senator Bernie Sanders and former Maryland Governor Martin O’Malley were also featured speakers. All three candidates spoke about the similar topics, and all three attacked Republican presidential candidate Donald Trump for his comments disparaging Latino  immigrants. Trump’s presidential opponents were slow to speak out against his comments, a fact which Clinton called out asking, “Why did it take weeks for most of you to speak out?”

Clinton Focuses on Women’s Issues in South Carolina

Hillary Rodham Clinton visited South Carolina for the first time since announcing her presidential campaign. In Columbia, Clinton began by meeting with six minority women business owners at Kiki’s Chicken and Waffles. She held a roundtable where the business owners shared their ideas and concerns with Clinton.

Clinton then delivered the keynote address at the South Carolina Democratic Women’s Council’s Day in Blue conference. She spoke about a woman’s right to equal pay saying that the issue was not only a women’s issue, but a family issue. She said, “When any parent is short-changed, the entire family is short-changed, and if families are short-changed, Americans are short-changed.” She advocated for strengthening the middle class and said that equal pay for women was a step in the right direction. Clinton proposed a paycheck fairness act that would provide the legal framework for business to disclose salaries for positions to ensure women are not being short-changed. Dreamforce Conference

Hillary Rodham Clinton delivered the keynote address at the Dreamforce Conference in San Francisco. Clinton spoke to the technology community and urged them to continue to innovate. The conference, sponsored by SalesForce, focused on the future of technology. Clinton said, “What we have to be really focused on now is making sure that the benefits of technology to people’s lives outweigh the pitfalls — and it is as evenly distributed as it is possible to do — creating more jobs, connecting up more families and communities, and expanding our horizons.” In addition, Clinton praised SalesForce CEO Marc Benioff for his charity work. She also voiced her support for Net Neutrality as broadband internet companies begin to stream certain businesses content faster in return for payment. Net Neutrality would ensure that the internet provider could not slow down a sites content simply because they did not pay.

AdvaMed 2014 Conference

hillarymarylee_webHillary Rodham Clinton was the keynote speaker at the AdvaMed 2014 Conference luncheon in Chicago. Speaking the to the group of medical professionals, Clinton answered a number of questions related to Obamacare (aka: The Affordable Care Act). The group’s chief concern is the medical device tax enforced by the healthcare law. Clinton did not seem supportive of the tax saying, “I don’t know what the right answer about the tax is, but I think we could, taking a look at everything and not standing there with out arms folding staring at each other across the partisan divide, begin to sort it out.” This is no the first time Clinton has question parts of the law and she has hinted that she is open to possible updates the law in the future.

Women in the Workforce (Japan)

Hillary Rodham Clinton spoke via video to a women in the workforce conference held in Japan. In her remarks, Clinton spoke about the lack of paid family leave in the United States. She said, “The United States, unfortunately, is one of a handful of developed countries without paid family leave.” In Japan, a portion of paid family leave is guaranteed. Clinton also discussed the inequality of pay for women, and in particular the lack of women in some industries, particularly Silicon Valley.

Empowerment of Women and Girls Conference

getimage.aspxHillary Rodham Clinton spoke at a conference aimed at empowering women and girls. Lissa Muscatine, who owns the Politics and Prose bookstore, interviewed Clinton at the event. Clinton spoke about the recent kidnapping of women in Africa saying that the United Nations needs to develop a strategy to find these groups and bring them to justice.

Hillary Rodham Clinton delivered a speech at the New America Foundation Conference in Washington, DC. Her speech was on the topic of the economy, and more specifically, income inequality. Clinton urged businesses and community groups to come together to help the struggling middle class. She argued that upward mobility does exist within the United States, but the government may not be solution. She said, “We can’t wait for government, which seems so paralyzed and unfortunately at a time when we could be racing ahead.”

National Council for Behavioral Health Conference

Hillary Rodham Clinton appeared at the National Council for Behavioral Health Conference in Maryland. While most of Clinton’s speeches up to this point have largely focused on women’s rights and foreign policy, she spoke about a number of domestic policy issues. Clinton spoke about the media’s role in the unpopularity of the Affordable Care Act, but again she expressed her openness to future changes. She also spoke at length about gun control. She stressed that she fully supports gun ownership, but that the current system makes it too easy for guns to get into the hands of those who misuse them. She said, “We have to rein in what has become [an] almost article of faith, that anybody can own a gun anywhere, anytime. And I don’t believe that.”

Home Instruction for Parents of Preschool Youngsters Conference

Hillary Rodham Clinton was the keynote speaker at the Home Instruction for Parents of Preschool Youngsters Conference (HIPPY) in Washington, DC. Clinton helped bring the group to Arkansas, and HIPPY is currently active in DC and 21 states. Celebrating the 25th anniversary of the group, she stressed the importance of early childhood education. She said, “It is now wonderful to see so many people in so many walks of life talking about early childhood, talking about the importance of parents, particularly mothers, as a child’s first teacher, and you’re a big part of that. The reason that so many – from elected officials to economists to education experts all over the country – are finally catching on is because the evidence has become so compelling.”
