Bill Clinton Campaigns for Hillary in Kentucky

On Thursday, Bill Clinton returned to Kentucky where he campaigned on behalf of his wife Hillary. During his first appearance in Owenboro, Bill spoke about his wife’s experience and her dedication to helping people better themselves. He spoke about a number of Hillary’s platform points including health care, income inequality, and her plans to continue building the economy. Speaking at Kentucky Wesleyan College, Bill focused section of his speech on Kentucky specific policies, including the state’s coal economy. He said, “We’ve got to prove that every place in America can get its fair share of clean energy jobs. You say ‘Well, we’re a coal state.’ Yes, and we will continue to run coal for some years to come but that shouldn’t exclude other things.”

In Frankfort, Bill spoke with a crowd of supporters at the Capital Plaza Hotel. He spoke about the need for the continued need for job growth in the state and country, and he outlined Hillary’s plan to create new jobs with a number of his plans, including one to repair the country’s crumbling infrastructure. At both events, he referenced Hillary’s experience as a change maker saying, “She’s the best change maker I’ve ever known. She’s the best at this I’ve ever known. There are 35,000 potential votes in this primary and the fight for this area. So I want you to vote for her.” He then asked for voters’ support during Tuesday’s primary.

Bill’s final event of the day was held tonight in Prestonsburg. His speech focused on coal and what Hillary plans to do for communities that rely heavily on coal for jobs. He outlined her plan to bring new jobs and industry to the region as the United States begins to rely less and less on coal energy. Bill was greeted by some protesters and a few were vocal during his speech, but she said that he didn’t “care if you boo or cheer. I’m glad you’re here.” The coal industry in Kentucky is in decline and he assured voters that Hillary has a plan so they are not left behind. Meanwhile, two fundraisers were held today on behalf of Hillary for America. The first was in West Hollywood, California and featured a conversation with campaign manager Robby Mook. The second event was in Washington, DC and was hosted by Sherry and John Goodman. The event featured a conversation with Michèle Flournoy, Former Under Secretary of Defense; Laura Rosenberger, Foreign Policy Advisor for Hillary for America; and Capricia Penavic Marshall, Former US Chief of Protocol.

Hillary Clinton Kicks off “Breaking Down Barriers” Tour in Appalachia

Today, Hillary Clinton began a series of events that she is calling the “Breaking Down Barriers” tour. The goal of the tour is to speak with small groups of voters and get a better understanding of their concerns. During her first event in Ashland, Kentucky, Clinton met with workers at Alma’s Italian Cafe where she outlined her plan to help coal communities. She compared her plan to the “Marshall Plan,” the plan that rebuilt Western Europe following World War II, saying that the three main parts would protect health and pension benefits of miners, research how coal can be a clean part of America’s energy future, and invest in alternative energy. She also spoke about her plans to entice more businesses to keep their manufacturing operations in the United States.

Clinton then traveled to Williamson, West Virginia where she was met by a number of protestors who took issue with recent comments Clinton made about the coal industry. During the event, Clinton apologized for the comments saying that her comments were taken out of context. She said, “What I was saying is that, the way things are going now, we will continue to lose jobs. That’s what I meant to say. I do feel a little bit sad and sorry that I gave folks the reason or the excuse to be so upset with me because that is not what I intended at all.” Clinton visited with miners who have lost their jobs and community leaders who are struggling with unemployed citizens. She vowed to support West Virginia and towns that rely heavily on coal mining for survival even if the state does not support her in the primary or November. Meanwhile, fundraisers were being held for Hillary for America across the country. Chelsea Clinton was in Washington, DC where she attended a fundraiser. Also in Washington, DC, Campaign Chair John Podesta attended a fundraiser along with policy advisors Ann O’Leary and Jennifer Klein. In Brookline, Massachusetts, a fundraising event was held at the home of John Reinstein and retired Judge Nancy Gertner. Attending the event was former Attorney General Eric Holder. In Portland, Oregon, Olympic figure skater Michelle Kwan and actress Kathleen Turner were on hand to kickoff a phone bank effort.

Bill Clinton Campaigns for Hillary in West Virginia

On Sunday, Bill Clinton campaigned on behalf of Hillary Clinton in West Virginia. Some of Hillary’s comments about coal, a chief employment sector in the state, have been met with resistance. When Bill arrived in Logan for his first event, he was met by protestors in addition to supporters. He responded to the boos and protesters by explaining the detail of Hillary’s plan to help boost coal dependent communities, and he said, “I wanted to come here and tell you that I care about what you’re going through. I get it and I think that we can do something about it, that’s the most important thing.” Bill went on to say that Hillary cares about the Appalachian communities and it is her experience that will serve them well.

Bill’s second stop in the state was in the capital city of Charleston. He was met by an enthusiastic crowd and he focused on a wider variety of Hillary’s campaign platform points including health care, student loan debt, and the current drug epidemic. He said that Hillary has experience working with both sides of the aisle in Congress on a number of issues, and that the drug epidemic should be taken seriously by both parties. He said, “This could give us the chance to start working together as one America again because this [drug] problem is an equal opportunity killer. It’s killing Republicans and Democrats alike. We are close to having a real consensus in the Congress to do something about this together.” Videos from today’s events will be posted when/if available.

A Hillary for America fundraiser was held today in Artesia, California. Those attending the event held at the East West Ice Palace had an opportunity to ice skate with Olympic medalist Michelle Kwan.

Hillary Clinton Presents Manufacturing Plan in Syracuse

On Friday, Hillary Clinton held two public events in Syracuse, New York. The first was a round table discussion during which she unveiled her plans to boost manufacturing. The plan calls for an investment of $10 billion and is called “Make it in America.” The basic components of the plan include:

• The establishment of “Make it in America Partnerships” that make America the first choice for manufacturing production by harnessing regional strengths.
• Prevent foreign countries like China from abusing global trade rules, and reject trade agreements that do not meet high standards.
• Revitalize the hardest-hit manufacturing communities.
• Crack down on companies shipping jobs and earnings overseas – and create incentives for companies to bring back jobs to the U.S.
• Invest in America’s manufacturing workforce to ensure that they will always be the best in the world.

Clinton then held a public rally in Syracuse’s Regional Market where she covered a number of topics including her pledge to fight for equal pay for women, making higher education more affordable, and growing the economy of New York and and the country. She also touched on the topic she covered earlier in the day at the small business round table saying, “Upstate New York has a storied history of manufacturing. We now have a chance to recapture that.” While in Syracuse, Clinton also made stop at Varsity Pizza where she posed for pictures and signed basketballs. Clinton also attended two fundraisers today. The first was held before the rally in Syracuse where donors could meet Clinton. She then traveled to New Jersey for a fundraiser in Tenafly.

Clintons Campaign in Multiple States

On Tuesday, Bill and Hillary Clinton attended events across multiple states. Bill was in Greenville, South Carolina where he spoke to a crowd at the West End Community Center. He spoke about immigration reform and gun control, and he spoke highly of Hillary’s experience and conviction. Bill said that her desire to be a change maker is her strongest trait. He asked voters to support her in the upcoming primary saying, “She never gives up and she won’t give up on you, and she knows if we are going to go into the future together we’ve got to have shared prosperity, equal opportunity and inclusiveness. If that is what you want she is your candidate.”

Hillary attended three events in two states. She began in New York City where she attended a fundraiser. She then met with Reverend Al Sharpton in Lower Manhattan. Clinton and Sharpton were joined at their meeting by National Urban League President Mark Moriale. Clinton said, “My campaign is really about breaking every barrier. I’m not a single issue candidate and we don’t live in a single issue country and we have work to do and that work can only be done in partnership.” Clinton then traveled to an evening fundraiser in McLean, Virginia held at the home of Beatrice and Tony Welters.

Hillary also visited Harlem where she gave a speech on her plans to end systemic racism. She pledged $125 billion to assist poor and minority communities with job training and education. She spoke about her “Breaking Down Barriers” that would help “places where people of color and the poor have been left out and left behind.” Clinton criticized rival Bernie Sanders’ relationship with minorities communities saying, “You can’t start building relationships a few weeks before a vote.” A video of her speech will be added when/if available.

In Nevada, Virginia Senator Tim Kaine joined a group of supporters in Mesquite to take part in a canvass event. Meanwhile in Texas, Hillary for America Director of Policy Outreach Ed Meier attended an event at the Dallas home of Anne and Chris Hamilton.

Clinton Outlines Manufacturing Plan

On Tuesday, Hillary Clinton’s campaign released her outline to boost the United States’ manufacturing sector and assist communities that once had a strong manufacturing economy. Her plan includes a series of tax credits for communities that have lost manufacturing jobs, expanding access to grants and capital for smaller startups and manufacturers, stricter regulations for companies, and added emphasis on training and education. In the plan, Clinton argues that manufacturing is key to our economy because it provides higher paying jobs and boosts innovation. On Thursday, Hillary Rodham Clinton’s campaign unveiled plans to assist communities whose economies rely on coal as the infrastructure shifts to renewable energy. In her plan, Clinton calls for $30 billion in funding for communities who are suffering from the decrease in coal consumption.
