On Saturday, Senators Bernie Sanders and Elizabeth Warren were both on the campaign trail in Ohio on behalf of Hillary Clinton. Senator Sanders spoke at events on college campuses in Akron and Kent. In an effort to appeal to young voters, Sanders spoke in full support of Clinton speaking about a number of her platform plans including rebuilding the national infrastructure, creating new jobs, and lowering the cost of higher education. Senator Warren campaigned on behalf of Clinton in Columbus, Ohio. She spoke about the importance of the election and reviewed several of the proposals made by Clinton. Warren then went after Donald Trump and his connections to hate groups. A video from the event is below.
Tim Kaine was in New Orleans on Thursday where he spoke at the Progressive National Baptist Convention. Speaking with the group of 800 leaders, Kaine spoke about his Catholic upbringing, his missionary work in Honduras, and the central theme of Hillary Clinton’s campaign of equity and opportunity. He spoke about injustice saying that it needed to be fought everywhere it appears. “That’s a proud tradition that continues in the work you do of being the voice for the voiceless, standing up for people’s rights. Registering voters and making sure people can get over the hurdles and the barriers someone put in their way so they can participate in one of the most solemn things we do,” he said. Meanwhile, in Needham, Massachusetts, Ann Lewis spoke with supporters at a fundraiser hosted by Massachusetts Women for Hillary. Then in Columbus, Ohio, a fundraiser was held with Kristin Davis. The event was hosted by Debbie Neimeth.
On Sunday, Hillary Clinton and Tim Kaine wrapped up their jobs focused bus tour in Ohio. Although it was initially reported that Clinton would not appear in Cleveland, Clinton did make a stop in the city and spoke during Sunday services at Imani Temple Ministry. During her brief remarks, Clinton spoke about the promise of America and her plans to defend the American dream. A video of her address is below (I apologize for the poor audio).
Clinton and Kaine’s final event of the bus tour was a rally in Columbus. Kaine and Clinton both continued to focus their remarks on her jobs plan and improvements to the infrastructure; however, Clinton did address comments made by Donald Trump about retired General John Allen and Khizr and Ghazala Khan, the parents of a Muslim American solder killed in 2004. Clinton said that she was disgusted by Trump’s divisive language saying, “It’s going to be up to all of us to repudiate the hatefulness, attacks on distinguished military leaders … or insulting the family of a fallen soldier, Captain Khan, an American Muslim who sacrificed his life to protect his unit and other soldiers.” A video from the event is below.
On Tuesday, Hillary Clinton delivered a speech on the economy in Columbus, Ohio during which she spoke about her economic policies saying that the economy “isn’t yet where we want it to be, but we are stronger and better positioned than anyone in the world.” She spoke about her plans to create new jobs and go after dangerous Wall Street practices. The main focus of her speech, however, was Republican Donald Trump and the danger of a Trump presidency for the economy. She attacked Trump for his divisive rhetoric, and she focused on his economic policies and business background. She pointed to several poor business decisions and failures as evidence that Trump’s poor judgement. She also spoke about how economists predict a recession if Trumps economic proposals are enacted. She wrapped up by saying that we are stronger together saying that Trump “believes in the worst of us.” A full video of Clinton speech is below.
The Clinton campaign also released a new website targeting Trump and his business history. The site is laid out like a magazine and is called “Art of the Steal.” The site, artofthesteal.biz, is available now and features a number of articles outlining how Trump’s policies would destroy the economy. A number of Trumps failed business ventures are outlined to illustrate his questionable judgement and his self-professed business skills. Las night, Hillary Clinton and Bernie Sanders took part in a town hall event on CNN. The town hall took place on the campus of Ohio State University and was moderated by CNN’s Jake Tapper and NewsOne Now’s Roland Martin. As with each of the previous town halls, the candidates appeared separately and were asked a series of questions from moderators and members of the audience. Both Clinton and Sanders accused Republican front-runner Donald Trump of inciting violence and Clinton suggested that he is committing “political arson.”
During Clinton’s portion, she was asked questions on a number of topics including heath care, race relations, infrastructure, clean energy, the economy, and education. One of the questions from the audience came from a man in the audience who had been on death row, but later found to be innocent of the crime. He asked Clinton why she said last year she did not favor abolishing the death penalty. She said, “You know, this is such a profoundly difficult question and what I have said and what I continue to believe is that the states have proven themselves incapable of carrying out fair trials that give any defendant all the rights that defendants should have. I would breathe a sigh of relief if either the Supreme Court or the states themselves began to eliminate the death penalty.” A full video of Clinton portion of the town hall is below.
Democratic presidential candidates Bernie Sanders and Hillary Clinton each spoke with Ohio Democrats at the Ohio Democratic Party Legacy Dinner. While Sanders gave a brief speech, Clinton took advantage of the opportunity to tell Ohio voters what a Clinton presidency would mean to them. She focused her speech on a number of Ohio events including the auto industry and Senate Bill 5, a law from 2011 would would have limited collective bargaining rights for unions. Clinton said, “When the chips were down, you did not let Gov. John Kasich drown out the voices of Ohio’s public servants. Now let’s stand up for all unions nationwide because when unions are strong, families are strong, the middle class is strong, and America is strong.”
Clinton also went after Republican front Donald Trump saying that he is not “who we are.” She went on saying, “Americans have rejected demagogues and fearmongers. You don’t make America great again by getting rid of everything that made America great in the first place.” Clinton also took a swipe at Sanders as well saying, “America is a big, complicated country facing big, complicated challenges. We can’t afford a single issue strategy or a single-issue president. Knocking down barriers means we can’t just talk about economic inequality, we also have to take on racial inequality.” A video of Clinton’s speech is below.
This morning, Clinton spoke to the congregation of Mount Zion Fellowship church in Highland Hills, Ohio. During her speech, she spoke about the importance of equality in the country and vowed to fight to break down barriers so everyone can take advantage of everything America has to offer. Clinton shared her favorite quote from former first lady Eleanor Roosevelt: “A woman is like a tea bag. You don’t know how strong she is until she gets into hot water.”
Oh Wednesday afternoon, Bill Clinton visited Columbus, Ohio where he met with Mayor Michael B. Coleman and toured the Lincoln Theater. He then gave a speech at Hillary for America’s Columbus office. He argued that Hillary is the best candidate for president and urged supporters to vote for her in the March 15 primary. He said, “My argument for Hillary is pretty simple. I think she’s got the best economic plan the best college aid plan. I think she’s got the best record as a change maker, and I think she’s the only person left in either party who’s spent her life making changes that have made people’s lives better at home and has serious national security experience to make people as safe as possible.” A video from his speech is below.
Two fundraisers were held on behalf of Hillary for America today. The first was in Half Moon Bay, California and featured Alphabet CFO Ruth Porat. The second fundraiser was hosted by Judy White and Michael Yi in New York City. The event featured a conversation with De’Ara Balenger, Hillary for America Director of Engagement.
On Thursday, Hillary Rodham Clinton made two appearances at Women for Hillary organizational rallies. The first was in Columbus, Ohio where she talked about women’s issues and her pledge to defend Planned Parenthood. In a clear reference to presidential candidate Donald Trump, she told the crowd of 500 that she was looking forward to debating “one particular candidate who just seems to delight in insulting women every chance he gets.” A full video of the speech is below (we apologize for the quality, and it will be replaced when/if another video is made available).
Her second stop was in Wisconsin, her first visit to the state since launching her presidential campaign. The event was held at the University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee where she focused on labor issue, and in particular, Wisconsin Governor Scott Walker’s stance against unions. Clinton attacked Walker, now a Republican presidential candidate, saying, “What happens when you’re a proud union member and you have a governor who wants to drive you out?” She pledged her support for labor unions across Wisconsin and the country.
