On Friday, Hillary Clinton received an honorary degree and spoke during the commencement ceremony of Medgar Evers College. Clinton acknowledged the college’s diverse student body during her speech and urged everyone to fight for voting rights and civil rights. Clinton focused on encouraging the graduates to fight for their rights and the rights of others as they venture into the world. She said, “Never let anyone silence your voices. Make your voices heard every single day. Hillary Clinton spoke at the Planned Parenthood 100th Anniversary Gala in New York City on Tuesday night. During her speech, Clinton argued that women’s health care is important and warned that the Donald Trump administration and Republican administrations across the country are taking away women’s health care by closing Planned Parenthood clinics and cutting funding. She said, “As we speak, politicians in Washington are still doing everything they can to roll back the rights and progress we’ve fought so hard for over the last century.” Clinton acknowledged the controversy surrounding Planned Parenthood and abortion rights, and she said that everyone has a right to their personal feelings, but the government should not take away anyone’s right to control their body. “Let us respect people’s convictions. But never back down from our commitment to defend the ability of every woman to make these deeply personal decisions for herself. On Tuesday evening, Hillary Clinton spoke at the annual UNICEF Snowflake Ball in New York City. She highlighted the work that UNICEF has done to help children before presenting the Audrey Hepburn Humanitarian Award to singer Katy Perry. Clinton said of Perry, “She is serious about understanding the complex problems we face and pulling people together to solve them. We need champions like Katy now more than ever, her passion, her energy and, yes, her voice, louder than a lion.” Perry, a Clinton supporter during the campaign, was surprised by Clinton’s appearance, and in her acceptance speech, Perry said, “I’ve always had a voice – a singing voice – but I’ve never had a voice like I’ve had before. Hillary has lit that voice inside of me, and that light will never go out, it will continue to get brighter and brighter and brighter.” A clip from the event is below, and a full video from the event will be added when/if available.
On Saturday, Jon Bon Jovi performed at a Get Out the Vote concert in St. Petersburg, Florida. Bon Jovi performed a number of his hits in between talking about the importance of the election and encouraging everyone to vote for Hillary Clinton. He was joined on stage by Clinton’s running mate, Tim Kaine, who spoke to crowd. Borrowing from Bon Jovi’s song lyrics, Kaine said, “I don’t wanna be another wave in the ocean. I’m rock, not just another grain of sand. We’re not just waves in the ocean, folks. And we’re not just grains of sand. We’ve got power. We’ve got power politically and nobody more than in Florida. If you put your votes behind Hillary Clinton, it is done. She will be President.” He then played the harmonica along with Bon Jovi. A video clip from the concert is below.
On Wednesday, indie rock group The National performed at a Get Out the Vote concert in Cincinnati, Ohio. During the concert, lead singer Matt Berninger spoke about the importance of the election and encouraged the crowd of more than 3,000 to vote for Hillary Clinton. “Young people, she’s setting your future. She is going to help your kids’ futures, so young people, don’t take this for granted,” he said. The group performed a number of their songs between their messages to the crowd. On Tuesday evening, singer NE-YO performed at get out the vote concert on behalf of Hillary Clinton in Raleigh, North Carolina. He performed a number of his hits and spoke about the importance of voting for Clinton. Campaign volunteers also addressed the crowd throughout the event urging them to vote on November 8th or to take advantage of early voting. A clip from the concert is above.
On Saturday evening, Jennifer Lopez headlined a concert in support of Hillary Clinton in Miami, Florida. The event also included a performance by Marc Anthony. Lopez and Anthony performed a number of their hits for crowd. In between songs, the singers spoke about the importance of the election and electing Clinton president. Near the end of the concert, Clinton joined Lopez and Anthony on stage and urged everyone to vote on election day or to take advantage of early voting. She said, “We just heard Jennifer perform ‘Let’s Get Loud.’ Well, I say, ‘Let’s Get Loud’ at the voting booth. You can vote early. Hillary Clinton appeared on Monday’s episode of NBC’s The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon. The segment was filmed last week but aired last nihgt. Fallon and Clinton discussed the campaign and her health among other topics. Fallon then read a series of letters written to Clinton, and, in response to critics saying that Fallon has given Clinton “softball” questions in the past, Fallon gave Clinton a bag containing actual softballs. On Monday, Bill Clinton sat down or an interview with Charlie Rose. A portion of the interview aired during the CBS Evening News and the rest will air on PBS’s NewsHour. During the interview, Clinton discussed a number of topics including his support for Hillary Clinton’s campaign, he defended the Clinton Foundation, and he gave an update on Hillary’s health following her pneumonia diagnosis. He said that the decision to cancel a few days of campaigning was a good choice so she can properly recover. “I was glad today she made a decision, which I think was correct, to cancel her campaign day to take one more day to rest. But she looked like a million bucks this morning I can tell she’s feeling a lot better.” Clips from the interview are below.
On the day before California’s Democratic primary, Bill Clinton campaigned on behalf of Hillary Clinton in the San Francisco area. Bill has been focusing his efforts on smaller events and has spoken to supporters by standing in the back of a truck. His first two events today were a Get Out the Vote rallies in Oakland and Hayward. At each event, Bill spoke about Hillary’s experience and a number of platform points including growing the economy, focusing on clean energy, and expanding health care. In his speeches, he also criticized Republican nominee Donald Trump for a number of his positions and rhetoric saying that Hillary is a better candidate to continue the progress of the last eight years. Bill then spoke at a Get Out the Vote event in Antioch. Speaking to a crowd of supporters at Marsh Elementary School, Bill spoke about Hillary’s experience and her plans to keep moving America forward. He explained how important the 2016 election is to continue to the progress of the last eight years, and that electing Trump is a certain way to undo most of that progress. In Richmond, he spoke spoke about similar topics, but he was confronted by a group of protestors who interrupted his speech. Instead of having the protesters escorted out, Bill answered their questions. He was asked about Hillary’s ties to Wall Street and the crime bill that passed during his administration. He has admitted that that parts of that bill were not perfect saying, “When the crime bill in 1994 came over from the House, it had stronger incarceration procedures than I originally asked for. They cover about 8 percent of total people in prison. When we got to the Senate, the Senate included an assault weapons ban with an ammunition clip limit.” A partial video from the event, including Bill’s exchange with the protester, is below.
His final event of the day was in San Francisco where he spoke about the city’s important position in the country saying, “San Francisco is uniquely positioned to understand that every American should care about the implications of our elections and our choices and the rest of the world.” He then went on to speak about a number of Hillary’s platform points and making an argument why she is a better candidate for president than Democratic rival Bernie Sanders or Trump. He asked for voters’ support in the primary saying that California would be a big win for Hillary. A video from the event is below.
Chelsea Clinton and Senator Cory Booker also campaigned for Hillary in New Jersey. They appeared at several events and spoke about a number Hillary’s platform points and the importance of the 2016 election. They both urged voters to vote in tomorrow’s New Jersey primary.
Meanwhile, Tokyo, Japan, a fundraiser was held for American citizens living in the region. The event featured a conversation with former Under Secretary of State Bob Hormats. The topic of the conversation was economic growth, energy, and the environment.
