Clinton Endorsed by the Communications Workers of America

On Monday, Hillary Clinton was endorsed by the Communications Workers of America. In a statement released by the group, they said Clinton “has stood with CWA members and pledges her commitment to making life better for working families.” Clinton released a statement saying that she is honored to have received the group’s endorsement and looks forward to working with them if elected president. A copy of Clinton’s statement is below:

“I am honored to have earned the endorsement of the Communications Workers of America.

For decades, the CWA has connected Americans to each other—and along the way, they’ve helped build the American middle class.

As President, I will always stand with the CWA to protect workers’ fundamental rights to organize, to bargain collectively, to be safe on the job, and to retire with dignity and security after years of hard work. I was proud to join the CWA on the picket line this year as they stood up to Verizon and fought for a fair deal.

And I will do everything in my power to defend American jobs and American workers. Any trade deal must meet three tests to earn my support: It must create good American jobs, raise wages, and advance our national security. I do not believe that the Trans-Pacific Partnership meets this high standard. That’s why I oppose the TPP — and that means before and after the election.

Above all, we must make sure unions have a seat at the table and a champion in the White House. Because when workers are strong, families are strong—and when families are strong, America is strong.”

Hillary Clinton Endorsed by the AFL-CIO

On Thursday, Hillary Clinton earned the endorsement of the largest group of labor unions in the country, the AFL-CIO. Representing 12.5 million members, the board voted to support Clinton. AFL-CIO President Richard Trumka said, “Hillary Clinton is a proven leader who shares our values. Throughout the campaign, she has demonstrated a strong commitment to the issues that matter to working people, and our members have taken notice. The activism of working people has already been a major force in this election and is now poised to elect Hillary Clinton and move America forward.” Clinton released a statement saying she is honored to receive the group’s support and vowed to fight for labor rights. The AFL-CIO is one of America’s most vital organizations, having been on the front lines of the fight for good-paying jobs and careers with benefits and dignity for more than a century. AFL-CIO member unions contribute to virtually every sector of our economy and are on the job in every corner of our country—building our infrastructure, teaching our children, sowing our fields, operating our ports, and entertaining us on stage and screen.

Members of the AFL-CIO know, as I do, that we are stronger together. We are stronger when we are investing in our country and our future. Hillary Clinton Endorsed by Transport Workers Union

On Wednesday, Hillary Clinton received the endorsement of the Transport Workers Union of America. In a statement, the union said that they endorsed Clinton because of her “dedication to ensuring working people have a voice against corporate America and her plan to invest billions in the country’s infrastructure.” Clinton released a statement saying that she is honored to have earned the union’s endorsement and, as president, she will fight to ensure the rights of unions and work to improve the country’s infrastructure. Every day, members of the TWU keep America on the move—driving our buses and trains, flying our planes, and keeping our communities safe and healthy. For decades, transport workers have helped power our economy and keep families connected. And along the way, they’ve helped build the American middle class, standing up for workers’ rights and fighting for the respect they deserve.

As President, I will always stand with the TWU in the fight to protect workers’ fundamental rights to organize, bargain collectively, be safe on the job, and retire with dignity and security after years of hard work. Hillary Clinton Wraps up Three Days of Campaigning in California

On Thursday, Hillary Clinton wrapped up a three day campaign trip to California. She began in Las Vegas, Nevada, however, where she attended the United Food & Commercial Workers (UFCW) Legislative and Political Affairs Conference. During her speech, Clinton said that Republican nominee Donald Trump is an urgent threat to workers’ rights. She said, “I’ve heard over and over again there has never been more at stake for working families in America than there is right now.” Clinton spoke about her plans to support labor unions, grow the middle class, and focus on the creation of new jobs. Clinton then traveled to San Jose where she spoke at an organizing event. She spoke about Trump again and since he is now the Republican nominee as he has secured the required number of delegates, the stakes of the 2016 election could not be higher. She spoke about a number of her platform points including defending women’s rights, fighting for equal pay, raising the minimum wage, continuing to improve the Affordable Care Act, and lowering the cost of higher education. Clinton then asked for voters’ support during the primary on June 7.

Clinton’s final event of the day was a Get Out the Vote event in San Francisco. During the event, Clinton focused on the issues and her platform proposals. She spoke about making college debt free, making community colleges free, raising the minimum wage, investing in clean energy, and continuing to improve the health care system. Clinton went on to explain why the 2016 election is so important and why electing a Democrat is so important. “Our economy does better when we have a Democrat in the White House,” she said. Meanwhile, Chelsea Clinton attended a fundraiser on behalf of Hillary for America in New York City.

Hillary Clinton Releases Statement of Support of new Overtime Rules

Today, the Department of Labor released updated standards guaranteeing that employees who earn up to $913 a week will receive overtime pay for any hours worked over a typical forty hour work week. The new rules are an increase over the previous threshold of $455 a week. Hillary Clinton released a statement supporting the move, but saying that there was still work to be done to ensure everyone earns a living wage. Clinton’s statement is below:

“I applaud President Obama and Secretary of Labor Perez for these final overtime rules, which will lift up workers nationwide and help get incomes rising again for working families. Within the first year these rules are in effect, millions more workers will be eligible for overtime, finally getting paid in full for the hours they are putting in on the job.

But we have more work to do. No one who works 40 hours a week should have to raise a family in poverty. No one should have their fundamental rights to organize and bargain collectively stripped away by Republicans and their corporate allies. That’s why we need to raise the federal minimum wage back to the highest it’s ever been in this country and make sure it keeps rising over time, protect workers’ rights and safety on the job, and restore the basic bargain that built America’s mighty middle class—that if you work hard and play by the rules, you can get ahead and stay ahead.”

Hillary Clinton Campaigns in Louisville and Fort Mitchell

Before voters head to the polls Tuesday in the Kentucky Democratic primary, Hillary Clinton has several Get Out the Vote events scheduled for Sunday and Monday. Today, she began in Louisville where attended morning church services at St. Stephen Church and Canaan Christian Church before heading to a public event at a South Louisville union hall. During the Get Out the Vote event, Clinton spoke about her plans to improve the country’s infrastructure and create thousands of jobs in the process. She said, “We can put millions of Americans to work. A lot of this will be good union jobs because the people with the skills to do the jobs will be able to do them.” She spoke about a number of other platform points before asking for voters’ support in Tuesday’s primary. Clinton then traveled to Fort Mitchell where she spoke to a crowd of supporters at the historic home of Nathan Smith. During the event, she told that crowd that she would focus on growing the economy and put her husband, for president Bill Clinton, in charge of economic growth. The country saw strong growth during his administration in the 1990s, and she believes that many of the same strategies used then will work now. She also attacked presumptive Republican nominee for Donald Trump for being a “loose cannon” and someone who would not be helpful for the middle and working classes. She said that she is willing to work with anyone with ideas to revitalize the economy and continue the progress of the current administration saying, “I will seek common ground, but I will also stand my ground.”

Hillary Clinton Drums Up Support in Iowa

On Saturday, Hillary Clinton hosted two town hall events and took part in one Iowa Democratic party event. It was a busy day in Iowa for Hillary for America with a number of high profile Democrats and celebrities meeting with voters. Clinton was also formally endorsed by The Des Moines Register this afternoon. But for Clinton, she remained the trail meeting with as many voters before the upcoming caucus. The first event of the day was in Clinton where she responded to recent questions about her health and stamina saying that she is healthy and that she would “match my endurance against anybody.” Clinton spoke to the crowd about a number of topics, then took questions during the town hall portion of the event. During a “Hard Hats for Hillary” event in Davenport, Clinton met with union members saying that she would fully support them as president. She spoke about how she has already been endorsed by twenty-four unions, including some of the largest in the nation. She spoke about her work to help those in the working class by raising the minimum wage and not weakening unions’ rights to collectively bargain. She then took questions from the voters in attendance.

For the final event of the day, Clinton stayed in Davenport for the Scott County Democratic Party’s Red, White & Blue Banquet. She was not the only Democratic presidential candidate in attendance as Martin O’Malley attended the event as well. Clinton spoke about her plans to bolster the economy, improve America’s infrastructure, and expand clean energy. She also pledged to not raise taxes on those in the middle class.
