Hillary Clinton Statement on Diwali

As people around the world prepare to celebrate Diwali, the festival of lights, Hillary Clinton issued the following statement:

“On Sunday, nearly a billion Hindus, Jains, Sikhs, and Buddhists around the world—including more than two million Americans—will celebrate Diwali, the festival of lights.  For members of these faiths, lighting the lamp (the diya) is a reminder that light prevails over darkness, knowledge over ignorance, and good over evil.

Here in the United States, it is a tribute to the Indian American community that Diwali is celebrated with such beauty and joy. Regardless of our personal faith, Diwali reminds us that diversity is one of our greatest strengths as a nation, that light prevails over darkness, and that dharma—righteousness or goodness—must guide us toward a better tomorrow.  If I have the honor of serving as president, I will be committed to building an Administration that reflects such diversity, including continuing White House celebrations of Diwali.

To those of you celebrating this joyous occasion, I wish you and your loved ones a Happy Diwali and Saal Mubarak.”

Hillary Clinton Receives Endorsement of Emerge USA PAC

On Tuesday, Hillary Clinton received the endorsement of Emerge USA PAC, a group that supports candidates who support civil rights and the rights of minorities. In a release, the group said they supported Clinton because they are working with Muslim Americans to ensure that they are registered to vote, and they believe that Clinton is the best choice for a diverse America. Clinton released the following in response to the endorsement:

“This month, thousands of Muslims registered to vote across the country during Eid celebrations and are continuing to do so today to mark National Voter Registration Day. Every single one of those registrations carries the voice of the Muslim-American community—and there’s no stronger message against Trump’s hateful and divisive rhetoric than Americans coming together with pride and dignity. That’s exactly that type of work that Emerge USA does: empower the next generation of Muslims to lead in their communities.

The Muslim community knows that the stakes in this election could not be higher. From proposing to ban all Muslims from entering the United States, to attacking a Muslim Gold Star family whose son sacrificed his life for our country, to suggesting we monitor Muslim communities and places of worship, Trump has spent his entire campaign pitting Americans against each other and denigrating the Muslim-American community. It’s shameful. It’s disrespectful. It’s simply un-American. And it makes us less safe. Donald Trump’s constant demonization of Muslims plays straight into ISIS’ hands.

While Trump continues to paint a dark and misleading picture of the Muslim-American community, groups like Emerge USA remind us of the incredible contributions the community has made to our country. Muslim-Americans are entrepreneurs and inventors, they are students and teachers, soldiers and police officers—in short, they are the  best of America. I’m so grateful for the endorsement and the support of Muslim Americans across the country, and I will continue fighting to advance equality and keep our country safe.”

Clinton Speaks at African Methodist Episcopal Church in Philadelphia

On Friday evening, Hillary Clinton spoke in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania at a celebration of the 200th anniversary of the African Methodist Episcopal Church. Clinton spoke about the events of the week: the police killing of Alton Sterling in Baton Rouge, Louisiana; the police shooting of Philando Castile in St. Paul, Minnesota; and the sniper attack in Dallas, Texas that killed five police officers and wounded several others. Clinton said that each of the killings were “senseless” and condemned violence saying, “We know there is something wrong in this country. There is too much violence, too much hate, too much senseless killing. Too many people dead who shouldn’t be.”

Clinton spoke about the racial divide that only seems to be growing saying, “As we know, there is clear evidence that African-Americans are much more likely to be killed in police incidents than any other group of Americans. And we know there is too little trust in too many places between police and the communities they are sworn to protect.” Clinton said that good law enforcement officers far outnumber those who are bad and a violent response to violence is not the answer. The protest in Dallas yesterday was peaceful and police were there to monitor the crowds and ensure the protesters’ safety when they were fired upon by a sniper. Clinton spoke about her proposal to invest $1 billion in police training across the county to ensure the safety of law enforcement officers as well as the general public. Hillary Clinton Interviewed by the USA Today

On Wednesday, Hillary Clinton was interviewed by the USA Today. During the interview, Clinton laid her reasoning for calling Republican Donald Trump “temperamentally unfit” to be president. She spoke about Trump’s “incoherent” economic plans that would benefit those making the most money. Clinton also went after Trump’s response to the shooting in Orlando, Florida and the conspiracy theories he has started following his speeches. She said, “Now he is accusing our president of somehow encouraging terrorists and it is really offensive, even pathetic. And I do wonder how Republican leaders like House Speaker Paul Ryan and Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell can stay silent while their presumptive party nominee suggests that the President of the United States supports terrorists.” Read more of the interview HERE.

Today, two fundraisers were held on behalf of Hillary for America. The first was in Boston, Massachusetts and featured a conversation with Allida Black. The event was hosted by Martha Coakley, Ron Goodman, and Tracy Roosevelt. The second event was in Washington, DC and was a LGBT and Allies for Hillary Pride Celebration. The event featured Campaign Manager Robby Mook, Congressman Mark Takano, and members of the LGBT caucus.
