Senator Sanders Campaigns for Hillary in the Heartland

Senator Bernie Sanders campaigned for Hillary Clinton in Iowa and Nebraska on Friday. His first events were in Davenport and Iowa City. During his speech at each event, Sanders stressed the importance of electing Democrats to ensure their progressive agenda become law. He spoke about Clinton’s plans to combat climate change, invest in clean energy, address campaign finance reform, reign in income inequality, and make college more affordable for students. Clinton’s college plan was developed with Sanders and he spoke about it in detail. He urged everyone to vote for Clinton and progressive platform saying, “The importance of this [platform] document is we are not going to let it sit on a shelf. We are going to incorporate those ideas into legislation to transform America. Iowa, thank you for making that possible.” Videos from the event in Iowa City are below.

In Cedar Rapids, Sanders spoke to a crowd of supporters on the campus of the University of Northern Iowa. He spoke about a number of Clinton’s platform points and the importance of electing progressives. He urged everyone to vote next Tuesday and encouraged the students to remain active in politics after the election saying, “But then the day after the election, after Hillary wins, I want you to pledge yourself to work as hard as you can with your friends and your co-workers to make this country what you and I know that we can become. Stand up for economic justice, social justice, racial justice, environmental justice. Let’s go forward and transform America.”

Sanders’ final event of the day was a rally in Omaha, Nebraska. Sanders maintained his progressive message talking about Clinton’s progressive platform and plans to raise the minimum wage and ensure that the wealthy pay their fair share in taxes. Sanders said that electing Donald Trump would be a disaster, but he also said that the election is going to be close. “My own gut feel is it’s going to be a very, very close election,” he said. Hillary Clinton Encourages Early Voting in Iowa

On Friday, Hillary Clinton returned to Iowa where she stressed the importance of voting at events in Cedar Rapids and Des Moines. During the event in Cedar Rapids, Clinton stressed the importance of the election saying that it is in the hands of voters to decide what type of country we want. She said, “The choice is yours as to what kind of country we will have.” Clinton attacked her Republican rival, Donald Trump, for his divisive campaign tactics and disrespectful comments about women, immigrants, and Muslims. She spoke about a number of her platform points focusing on women’s issues such as reproductive rights, equal pay, and paid family leave. She concluded by urging everyone to get out an vote on election day or to take advantage of early voting. A video from the event is below.

In Des Moines, Clinton spoke at Roosevelt High School about the importance of voting and taking advantage of early voting in Iowa. Clinton spoke about a number of platform points including her plans to grow the economy, create jobs by investing in infrastructure and clean energy, and making college more affordable for students, both past and future. Kaine, Holton Campaign in Iowa

On Monday, Tim Kaine and his wife Anne Holton campaigned in Iowa. Kaine and Holton appeared together at an event on the campus of Iowa State University in Ames. During his speech to students and supporters, Kaine spoke about Hillary Clinton’s plans to reduce the cost of higher education for students and reduce the debt of those who have already completed their education. He also spoke about her plans to expand the job market and increase the minimum wage. A video from Kaine’s speech will be added when/if available.

Holton then attended two additional events in Iowa. The first is a New College Compact discussion in Cedar Falls where she spoke with students about Clinton’s plans to reduce the cost of higher education and ensure that students can graduate free from debt. Holton then attended a phone bank kickoff event in Cedar Rapids where she spoke with volunteers and was even reunited with her college roommate, Janice Weiner. In New York City, a fundraiser was held on behalf of Hillary for America. The event was tailored toward the arts community and featured a conversation with De’Ara Balenger, HFA Director of Engagement.

HFA Fundraisers Held on Sunday, Kutcher in Iowa

On Sunday, two fundraisers were held on behalf of Hillary for America. The first was a LGBT and Allies reception in Charlotte, North Carolina. The event featured a conversation with Mayor Michael Nutter and music by DJ Samantha Ronson. Then, in Providence, Rhode Island, a fundraiser was hosted by Michelle Kwan and Clay Pell. The event featured a conversation with actor Tony Goldwyn.

Hillary Clinton has also received several celebrity endorsements. Actor Ashton Kutcher visited a local Hillary for America campaign office in Cedar Rapids, Iowa. A native Iowan, Kutcher criticized Donald Trump for doing anything to get elected. “In an effort to get himself elected, he’s willing to say whatever he has to and make you promises that ultimately I don’t think he can keep, but what most common sense people think is right,” he said. Kutcher continued, “I think Hillary stands for all of the things we stand for.” Meanwhile, in an interview with Katie Couric, DJ Khaled said he was supporting Clinton.

Tim Kaine Campaigns in Cedar Rapids

Tim Kaine campaigned in Iowa today speaking at a rally in Cedar Rapids. During his first speech in the state since being announced as Clinton’s running mate, Kaine referenced his ties to the mid-west. He said, “I grew up in Kansas City and part of my family on my mom’s side is from Fort Madison, so as a kid, I used to come to Iowa for family. And I have dear friends in Maquoketa and Charles City and Des Moines.” He spoke about Hillary Clinton’s economic plan and how the new jobs created would benefit Iowans. Kaine attacked Donald Trump for not releasing his tax returns calling him a tax dodger. He said that Clinton’s plans would ensure the wealthy pay their fair share and that everyone will have an equal opportunity to prosper in America. A video from the event is below.

Clinton Campaigns in Iowa on Saturday Before Caucus

Two days before the Iowa caucuses, Hillary Clinton appeared at a number of events across the state. The first event of the day was at Iowa State University in Ames. During the event, she was joined on stage by former Congresswoman Gabby Giffords and her husband, Mark Kelly. Giffords spoke briefly giving her full support to Hillary. Clinton then went on to speak about a number of her platform topics including gun control, health care, and education. A video from the event will be posted when/if available.

Clinton’s second stop of the day was in Carroll where she spoke with supporters before her final event in Cedar Rapids. The final rally of the day featured all three Clintons, Hillary, Bill, and Chelsea. Each took a moment to speak about Hillary’s accomplishments and experience before she took the stage to talk about the future and her plans as president. Clinton Rallies Iowa Crowds

Hillary Clinton was in Iowa for the second day in a row. As she travels the state encouraging support in the February 1 caucus, Clinton began her day at Mt. Zion Missionary Baptist Church in Cedar Rapids where she was introduced by Senator Cory Booker. Booker gave a passionate speech before introducing Clinton to the congregation where she spoke about the difficult decision of becoming Secretary of State and her pledge to continue fighting for civil rights. She spoke about building upon the progress of President Barack Obama’s administration. A video from this morning is below.

The second event of the day was in Marion where she was once again introduced by Senator Booker. During her speech, she focused on her plans for health care and other aspects of her platform, but more importantly, she asked those in attendance to think about which of the candidates is best prepared to be president. She said, “Who has the experience? Who has the judgment? Who can actually deliver for the United States when it comes to making these hard choices?”

Clinton then went to North Liberty for a Get out the Caucus event. She was introduced by Planned Parenthood President Cecile Richards before giving a speech during which she spoke about the importance of Planned Parenthood and preserving a women’s right to choose. She also spoke about a number of other key platform points including building upon the economy, improving the infrastructure, and expanding the middle class. Clinton’s final event of the day took place in West Des Moines. During the event at Valley Southwoods Freshman High School, Clinton accepted the endorsement of the Human Rights Campaign. She vowed to protect and expand the rights of the LGBT community saying, “We all benefit when every one of our fellow human beings can live lives of purpose and meaning without being demeaned, without being discriminated against. This is fight is for all Americans.” She then went on to speak about several of her key platform topics, and addressed criticism raised by rival Bernie Sanders about her Wall Street speaking fees. She said, “I have a record and a commitment. I believe strongly that we need to make sure Wall Street never wrecks Main Street again.” A video from the event is below.

Bill Clinton on the Campaign Trail

This week, Bill Clinton began hosting private and public events on behalf of his wife and Hillary for America. On Thursday, Clinton visited Cedar Rapids and Dubuque, Iowa where he took the opportunity to meet with several voters and hold two organizing events. His speeches were similar in that he spoke about the importance of electing a Democrat as president in 2016, and the best candidate for the job is Hillary Clinton. He spoke of her qualifications, and said that she is the best qualified person for the job. He said, “I do not believe in my lifetime, we have had a president that was more prepared, not only by experience but by temperament, to step in to this incredible mix of promise and peril. Ever. I don’t think it’s close.” A video from one of his speeches is below.

Former president Clinton also attended several private fundraisers over the last several days. Beginning on Wednesday, January 6, Clinton attended a New York City fundraiser hosted by the NY Film and TV for Hillary. On Friday, Clinton was scheduled to attend a fundraiser at the Paradise Valley, Arizona home of Dr. Nadeem and Hajra Kazi. He then flew to Seattle, Washington to attend a fundraiser at the Century Ballroom. Today, he was scheduled to appear at a fundraiser hosted by James Griffin in Los Ranchos, New Mexico before flying to Ohio to attend a fundraiser at the DiGeronimo Residence in Independence. As with all private fundraisers, they were closed to the press.

Hillary Clinton Hosts Three Iowa Events

On Monday, Hillary Clinton returned to Iowa where she hosted three events. The first was in Davenport where she set the tone for the day with a plea for voters to turn out and support her in Iowa’s caucus on February 1. She vowed to protect, and improve the Affordable Care Act and rework the economy so that it helps everyone and not just those at the top. She also spoke about other points from her platform including voting rights, gay rights, and women’s rights. A video from her event in Davenport is below.

Clinton then traveled to Cedar Rapids where hosted a town hall event. She gave a brief speech before taking questions from the crowd. One of the questions was in regard to Republican rival Donald Trump and his recent comments about her and President Barack Obama being responsible for the creation of ISIS. She responded by saying, “I’ve adopted a new year’s resolution. I’m going to let him live in his alternative reality and I’m not going to respond.”

Clinton wrapped up the first day of her trip to Iowa in Des Moines. The event was billed as a “Get Out the Caucus” rally. Her speech was similar to one she gave earlier in the day in Davenport where she stressed the importance of voters to turn out and vote for her at the February 1 caucus. Clinton Celebrates Labor Day in Iowa

To celebrate Labor Day, Hillary Rodham Clinton attended a number of Labor Day events across the state of Iowa. In Cedar Rapids, she was interviewed by the Associated Press where she was questioned about her email server, her presidential campaign, and her rivals. The primary purpose of the day for Clinton was to celebrate organized labor by attending a number of celebrations across the state. The topics that she focused on were income inequity, the minimum wage, and unions’ rights to collectively bargain. She addressed the Hawkeye Labor Council AFL-CIO Labor Day picnic in Cedar Rapids before heading to the Quad Cities area of Iowa and Illinois.

Clinton continued her focus on labor topics at the Quad City Federation of Labor’s Salute to Labor Chicken Fry in Hampton. She spoke about the importance of organized labor and its historical relevance. She pledged to support labor unions if she is elected president.
