On Wednesday, Hillary Clinton attended a fundraiser in San Francisco. The event came after she unveiled her technology agenda and featured two guests: Planned Parenthood President Cecile Richards and actress Jamie Lee Curtis. Also holding a fundraiser on behalf of Hillary for America on Wednesday was Senior Campaign Strategist Jim Margolis. The event was held in New York City. On Thursday, an additional New York City fundraiser was held, this time it included a conversation with Chief Financial Officer Gary Gensler.
On Friday, Hillary Clinton spent the day in Pennsylvania leading up to next week’s primary. She attended events and visited with voters across the state. She began in Philadelphia where she spoke with Lilly Ledbetter, then in Jenkinstown, she spoke with a number of voters at a local cafe. During the conversation, she presented a number of her plans to continue economic growth, introduce new jobs, improve health care, and lower the cost of higher education. She then went to the Pittsburgh area where she had dinner at Primanti Brothers restaurant in Market Square where she spoke with supporters about labor unions, the minimum wage, and the struggles of the middle class.
In the evening, Clinton held an organizing event at Dunmore High School in Scranton. She had a populist tone as she referenced a number of local examples and bringing additional jobs to the area. She spoke about a number of her platform points and was largely positive in her outlook, “I believe we can still make it in America. We will knock down the barriers, and we will raise the minimum wage.” Clinton also spoke about her plans to expand mental health care and combat the heroin epidemic in the Northeast. She said, “Two things I hear most about are mental health and addiction. When I shake the hand of a mother, father, brother or sister of a mental health patient, they look at me and tell me they need help.” A video from the event will be posted when/if available.
Clinton was not alone on the campaign trail Friday. Secretary of Labor Tom Perez was in Reading, Pennsylvania where he spoke with a group of Hillary supporters. In Providence, Rhode Island, Planned Parenthood president Cecile Richards spoke with a group of supporters.
On the eve of the New York primary, Bill, Chelsea, and Hillary Clinton were canvassing the state for support before tomorrow’s primary. A list of Hillary’s favorite New York restaurants was published by Thrillist, and she attended a number of events in and around New York City. Hillary began by appearing on a morning radio show called “The Breakfast Club“. During the interview, Clinton spoke about a number of her key platform points and the importance of tomorrow’s primary in New York. She also was asked to name something that she always carry with her. Her answer was “hot sauce.” Watch a video of the full interview HERE to find out why.
Hillary then hosted a Get Out the Vote rally at the Hilton in Manhattan. During her speech, she spoke about her Democratic rival Bernie Sanders and his record on gun control. He voted for a 2005 bill that made gun manufacturers immune from lawsuits if their product was used illegally. She continued, “There are many powerful lobbyists in Washington, as I said in the debate the other night in Brooklyn. I said, look, Senator Sanders talks a lot about the greed and recklessness of Wall Street. But what about the greed and recklessness of the gun manufacturers?” Hillary went on to explain the importance of the 2016 election and asked for voters’ support tomorrow. Tonight, Hillary will appear on CBS’s The Late Show with Stephen Colbert.
Bill, meanwhile, was campaigning on Hillary’s behalf in Buffalo and Rochester. In Buffalo, Bill began by kicking off a phone bank at Hilary’s headquarters. He then made several stops in town visiting St. John Towers senior facility, Spot Coffee, and he had lunch at Alton’s restaurant in Cheektowaga. In Rochester, Bill was joined by Gov. Andrew Cuomo and spoke to a crowd of supporters. He spoke briefly about a number of Hillary’s platform points and asked for their vote in tomorrow’s primary. Chelsea has spent the last two days campaigning on behalf of her mother at smaller events across the state. Yesterday, Chelsea spoke at Get Out the Vote events in Poughkeepsie and Binghamton. At both events, she spoke about her mother’s experience and plans as president. She stressed the importance of the election saying that it is the “most important” election of her lifetime. Chelsea even took time to answer questions from those in attendance.
Today, Chelsea spoke with supporters at the Women’s Hall of Fame in Seneca Falls. She spoke about her mom’s experience saying, “I think when you look at who has a real record of being able to deliver progress and be able to make change, my mom really stands out.” She spoke about similar topics at her other stops in upstate New York. Chelsea also spoke with supporters at Coltivare in Ithaca. In Rome, Chelsea visited a local daycare center. Speaking at the Little Learners On Campus Child Care Center, she spoke about the importance of early childhood education and Hillary’s plan to expand it nationwide.
The Clintons weren’t the only ones campaigning on behalf of Hillary today. In New York, Carole King, former Congresswoman Gabby Giffords, and Cecile Richards all joined Hillary and held events on their own. In Chicago, Illinois, David Plouffe, Campaign Manager for President Barack Obama in 2008, attended a fundraiser that was hosted by Kevin Conlon, Katelynd Duncan, Abby Erwin, Adam Hitchcock, Reyhad Kazmi, Samir Mayekar, Kevin Morris, Marilynn Rubio, Jon Samuels, Abigail Schmitz, and Joshua Schwartz.
On Saturday, Hillary Clinton returned to Wisconsin where she held a Get Out the Vote event at the Lismore Hotel in Eau Claire. During her speech, Clinton spoke about a number of her platform points including jobs, higher education, and health care, but she tailored the points to specific Wisconsin issues. She criticized Republican governor and former presidential candidate Scott Walker for undoing years of progress in the state saying, But there was something else I learned as I got older, how Wisconsin was such a pioneer, a pioneer in making progress on behalf of working people, a pioneer in an idea … Wisconsin understood before most of rest of country did that economy and higher education were linked. I admire that. (I’m) disheartened to see the dismantling of so many pieces of what made Wisconsin not just a great state to live in and a great state to work in, but an example for so many others.” A video from today’s event is below.
In the evening, both Democratic presidential candidates, Clinton and Bernie Sanders, spoke at the Democratic Party of Wisconsin’s 2016 Founders Day gala in Milwaukee. During Clinton’s speech, she not only focused on her presidential run, but the importance of getting Democrats elected at the local level in Wisconsin. Again, she called out Governor Walker for a number of his policies and criticized the appointment of Rebecca Bradley to the state Supreme Court. Bradley has been criticized for her stance on a number of issues and Clinton said, “There is no place on any Supreme Court or any court in this country, no place at all for Rebecca Bradley’s decades-long track record of dangerous rhetoric against women, survivors of sexual assault and the LGBT community.” A full video from the event is available on C-SPAN.
Also appearing in Wisconsin on behalf of Hillary for America was Planned Parenthood President Cecile Richards. She spoke with supporters on the campus of University of Wisconsin-Madison. Meanwhile, a fundraiser hosted by Susannah Gray and Michael John Williams was held in Washington, Connecticut. The fundraiser featured an appearance by Foreign Policy Advisor Daniel Kurtz-Phelan. A second fundraiser was held in Boston, Massachusetts. The fundraiser featured an appearance by Olympic figure skater Michelle Kwan.
As the Iowa Caucuses near, Hillary Clinton and Hillary for America are hitting Iowa hard with high profile Democrats and celebrities. This weekend, a number of high profile supporters will be meeting with volunteers and supporters alike. Those in Iowa this weekend include New Jersey Senator Cory Booker, EMILY’s List President Stephanie Schriock, Planned Parenthood President Cecile Richards, actor Tony Goldwyn, Virginia Senator Tim Kaine, New York Senator Kirsten Gillibrand, and actress Jamie Lee Curtis. We will not writing posts for all these events because many of them take place at Hillary for America offices across the state and are meant to rally the volunteers who are calling voters and knocking on doors in support of Hillary. The focus of this site remains highlighting the events attended by Hillary, Bill, and Chelsea. However, we will list as many events as possible on the Scheduled Events page. I apologize in advance, because as more and more events held by Clinton supporters take place, I am likely to leave some out.
