Clinton Will Fight for Comprehensive Immigration Reform, Trump Will Deport 16 Million People

In her first 100 days, Hillary Clinton will put forward a comprehensive immigration reform proposal that includes a pathway to full and equal citizenship. While Clinton will fight to strengthen families, our economy and our country through immigration reform, Donald Trump’s immigration plan remains the same as it’s always been: build a wall, tear apart families and send a “deportation force” into American communities to forcibly remove 16 million people from the United States.

*This will not happen.

Hillary will work to fix our broken immigration system and stay true to our fundamental American values. She has long been a supporter of comprehensive immigration reform. As Senator, Hillary cosponsored Senator Ted Kennedy’s 2004 bill and voted for comprehensive immigration reform bills in 2006 and 2007.

As president, Hillary will:

• Introduce comprehensive immigration reform within her first 100 days that includes a pathway to full and equal citizenship for undocumented immigrants.
• Defend President Obama’s DACA and DAPA executive actions to keep families together.
• Conduct humane, targeted immigration enforcement, including ending family detention and closing private detention centers.
• Promote naturalization by expanding fee waivers to alleviate naturalization costs.
• Support immigrant integration by creating a national Office of Immigrant Affairs.

Donald Trump’s entire campaign has demonized immigrants. Since calling Mexicans “rapists” and “criminals” and, since then, his rhetoric and dangerous immigration policies have only escalated. Trump’s immigration plan would tear apart families and contribute to the loss of  nearly 3.5 million jobs in his first term.

As president, Trump has planned to:

• Deport all of the more than 11 million undocumented immigrants in America.
• Repeal birthright citizenship and apply that repeal retroactively to deport the roughly 5 million United States citizens born here to undocumented parents.
• Send a “deportation force” into American communities to round up families.
• Repeal DACA and DAPA on Day One and deport DREAMers.
• Implement a “total and complete shut down of Muslims entering the United States.”
• Build  a “big, beautiful wall” along the southern border and pretend Mexico will pay for it (and when he had the opportunity to tell Mexican President Pena Nieto that, he choked).

Trump’s plan would cripple the American economy:

• $4.7 trillion: Amount a policy of mass deportation would reduce cumulative GDP over 10 years.
• $66 billion: Potential loss to U.S. economy under Trump’s “muslim ban” each year.

Nearly 3.5 million jobs: According to Moody’s, Trump’s immigration policies would contribute to the loss of nearly 3.5 million jobs in his first term.

Hillary’s Plan: Supreme Court Justices

Clinton Will Appoint Supreme Court Justices Who Affirm Our Rights, While Trump’s Justices Will Roll Rights Back

The fourth topic for tonight’s debate is the Supreme Court. America’s next president could nominate multiple Supreme Court justices and the stakes could not be higher. Appointments made in the next four years could determine the makeup of the Court for decades to come. Hillary Clinton will appoint justices who will affirm the dignity and equality of all Americans. In contrast, Donald Trump will appoint justices who will roll back hard-fought rights.

*Considering Trump has been involved in more than 4,000 lawsuits, he should know this is not how the justice system works.

Hillary Clinton will appoint justices to the Supreme Court who will protect the constitutional principles of liberty and equality for all, and make sure Roe v. Wade remains the law of the land and women retain the right to make their own deeply personal healthcare decisions. Hillary will make sure the scales of justice aren’t tipped away from individuals toward corporations and special interests. And she will protect citizens’ right to vote, rather than billionaires’ right to buy elections.

Donald Trump has demonstrated his desire to appoint justices who would roll back rights Americans have fought for over decades. As president, Trump will:

• Appoint justices who would overturn Roe v. Wade.
• Appoint justices who would overturn the Supreme Court’s decision on marriage equality.
• Appoint justices who would weaken the Affordable Care Act.
• Consider justices with a history of supporting restrictive voter ID laws.
• Consider the heritage of an American citizen when evaluating fitness to serve as a federal judge.
• Pursue policies that ignore cornerstone constitutional principles, including imposing a religious test on immigrants; profiling U.S. Muslims; registering all Muslims in a “database”; punishing women for having an abortion; nationalizing New York City’s old stop-and-frisk policy; shutting down religious institutions; “open up those libel laws”; and retroactively repealing birthright citizenship.

John Podesta on Trump’s Meeting with President Nieto

Hillary for America Chair John Podesta released the following information after Donald Trump’s meeting with Mexican President Peña Nieto.

Update (8/31): After reports that the Mexican President refused to pay for Trump’s wall, John Podesta added, “It turns out Trump didn’t just choke, he got beat in the room and lied about it.”

“Donald Trump has made his outlandish policy of forcing Mexico to pay for his giant wall the centerpiece of his campaign. But at the first opportunity to make good on his offensive campaign promises, Trump choked. What we saw today from a man who claims to be the ultimate ‘deal maker’ is that he doesn’t have the courage to advocate for his campaign promises when he’s not in front of a friendly crowd. We know who he is. After today’s trip, we still know where Trump stands: an immigration plan that would deport 16 million people, end birthright citizenship, repeal DACA/DAPA and build a $25 billion wall and stick the American taxpayers with the bill.”

TRUMP SAID GETTING MEXICO TO PAY FOR THE WALL WOULD BE “EASY”

TRUMP WAS WILLING TO START A TRADE WAR WITH MEXICO OVER PAYING FOR THE WALL

Trump On What He Would Do If Mexico Would Not Pay For A Wall: “I Don’t Mind Trade Wars.” BLITZER: “If the — if the Mexicans don’t pay for the wall, will you start a trade war with Mexico?” TRUMP: “Well, you know, I don’t mind trade wars when we’re losing $58 billion a year, you want to know the truth. We’re losing so much. We’re losing so much with Mexico and China — with China, we’re losing $500 billion a year. Trump Suggested He Would Be Willing To Cut Off Trade With Mexico If They Did Not Pay For The Border Wall. TRUMP HAS SUGGESTED TENSIONS WITH MEXICO OVER PAYING FOR THE WALL COULD BECOME PHYSICAL

Trump On Whether He Would Go To War With Mexico To Make Them Pay For The Wall: “When I Rejuvenate Our Military, Mexico’s Not Going To Be Playing With Us With War, That I Can Tell You.” WOODWARD: “If they say no, would you be willing to go to war to make sure we get the money to pay for this wall?” TRUMP: “Trust me, Bob, when I rejuvenate our military, Mexico’s not going to be playing with us with war, that I can tell you. Mexico isn’t playing with us with war. Look, I have great relationships with the Mexican people. HFA Statement on Trump’s Plan to Deport Every Undocumented Immigrant

Hillary for America Communications Director Jennifer Palmieri released the following statement reacting to Donald Trump’s plan to deport undocumented immigrants:

“Donald Trump reinforced today that he would deport 16 million people, including every undocumented immigrant and American citizens born here to undocumented parents.  Confirming what we’ve seen from the start of his campaign: Donald Trump will be Donald Trump. No one can change his hateful rhetoric or dangerous policies to send a deportation force into American communities, rescind DACA and DAPA, end birthright citizenship, and even ban remittances to families in Mexico in order to help build his giant wall. He may try to disguise his plans by throwing in words like “humane”  or ” fair,” but the reality remains that Trump’s agenda echoes the extreme right’s will–one that is fueling a dangerous movement of hatred across the country.

Enough is enough. Donald Trump must stop playing games with the lives of law-abiding immigrant families in order to save his campaign. These are families who contribute to the greatness of our country and that need a President who will fight to keep them together–not someone who will denigrate them and tear them apart.”
