Hillary Clinton Endorsed by the United Steelworkers

On Wednesday, the United Steelworkers endorsed Hillary Clinton for President of the United States. The endorsement comes one day after Clinton cleared the delegate threshold required to become the Democratic Party nominee for president. In a statement released by the labor union, they said, “Given her vast experience both with foreign and domestic policy, Hillary Clinton is a supremely qualified candidate, one of the most qualified candidates ever to seek the presidency.” Clinton responded to the endorsement saying that steel is critical to the economy, and she vowed to stand beside labor unions and ensure their rights. Clinton’s statement is below:

“I am honored to have earned the endorsement of the United Steelworkers.

The USW helped build America—and along the way, they have helped build the mighty American middle class.

Steel is crucial to our economy, our manufacturing base, and our national security. As President, I will stand with the USW in the fight to protect workers’ fundamental rights to organize, to bargain collectively, to stay safe on the job and retire with dignity. As a Senator from New York, I stood with steelworkers against efforts to undermine the competitiveness of American steel. And as President, I will throw the book at China and stop their illegal efforts to dump cheap steel in U.S. markets.

And together, we will fight to make the kinds of investments that make America’s economy grow for workers everywhere. We’ll make the biggest investment in infrastructure since Dwight Eisenhower built the Interstate Highway System, and make sure that we’re buying American materials to build America’s infrastructure. We’ll invest in manufacturing, because we can and we will make things in America.

Above all, I will always have workers’ backs. Unions like USW will always have a seat at the table and a champion in the White House. Because when workers are strong, families are strong—and when families are strong, America is strong.”

Hillary Clinton Endorsed by IFPTE

On Thursday, the International Federation of Professional and Technical Engineers (IFPTE) endorsed Hillary Clinton for President of the United States. In their release, President Gregory Junemann said, “She is also solidly in the corner of working Americans, as is reflected in her opposition to the damaging Trans-Pacific Partnership, and her strong support for collective bargaining rights.” Clinton responded to the endorsement by releasing a statement saying that she is “honored to have earned the endorsement,” and she vows to work with the IFPTE to ensure American workers are protected. “I am honored to have earned the endorsement of the International Federation of Professional and Technical Engineers.

In both the public and private sectors, the diverse members of IFPTE have helped build the mighty American middle class–standing up for workers’ fundamental right to organize and bargain collectively, opposing trade deals that have benefited big corporations at the expense of working families, and demanding the fair pay and respect American workers deserve.

As President, I will fight alongside IFPTE to protect workers’ rights to organize free from corporate intimidation, to oppose the Trans Pacific Partnership and build a level playing field so American workers can compete and win in the global economy, and to stand up for the dignity of all workers in the public and private sectors. Hillary Clinton Endorsed by the UAW

On Wednesday, Hillary Clinton received the endorsement of the United Auto Workers (UAW). During their announcement, the union cited Clinton’s “lifelong commitment to the job security of American families, and her ability to unify and win in November” as the reason for their support. Clinton responded by issuing a statement saying that she is “honored” to received the UAW’s endorsement. A copy of Clinton’s statement is below.

“I am honored to have received the endorsement of the United Autoworkers and their more than 400,000 members.

Every day, the UAW shows us that we can and we will ‘Make it in America.’ The U.S. auto industry has come roaring back from the great recession and just posted its best year ever—because the U.S. auto industry has the world’s best, hardest-working, most innovative and most creative workforce.

We need to keep going—and we need a President who will always stand with working families. Today, about one in five cars built in North America come from Mexico—double the share in 2004. That’s why autoworkers need more than tough talk on trade. They need a President who knows how to compete and win for American workers. I have said for years that I want to see NAFTA renegotiated to give American workers a level playing field. And we need to take on new challenges, like weak auto “rules of origin” standards that provide a backdoor for Chinese steel and other products into the U.S. We’re going to throw the book at China and stop them from cheating American workers.

As President, I will stand with the United Autoworkers in protecting workers’ fundamental right to organize and bargain collectively, including in their fight to organize the VW plant in Chattanooga. And we need to make sure that the jobs of the future, including in clean energy and clean transportation, are good union jobs that can’t be outsourced. Hillary Clinton Speaks to Members of the SEIU

On Monday, Hillary Clinton was in Detroit, Michigan where she addressed a gathering of members of the Service Employees International Union (SEIU). Clinton spoke about a number of her platform points including her support of raising the federal minimum wage, the importance of creating new jobs to continue the country’s economic growth, and her proposal to pass comprehensive immigration reform. She also spoke about the importance of labor unions and how she supports their right to collectively bargain for better wages and benefits.

During her speech, Clinton increased her criticism of presumptive Republican nominee Donald Trump. Throughout her speech, she attacked a number of his plans and his rhetoric. But she questioned Trump’s business record when she suggested that his plans will weaken America’s economy just like his business plans have bankrupted a number of his business holdings. Clinton said, “Trump economics is a recipe for lower wages, fewer jobs, more debt. He could bankrupt America like he’s bankrupted his companies.” She went on to say, “I mean ask yourself, how could anybody lose money running a casino, really?” A full video from her speech is below.

Hillary Clinton Releases Statement of Support of new Overtime Rules

Today, the Department of Labor released updated standards guaranteeing that employees who earn up to $913 a week will receive overtime pay for any hours worked over a typical forty hour work week. The new rules are an increase over the previous threshold of $455 a week. Hillary Clinton released a statement supporting the move, but saying that there was still work to be done to ensure everyone earns a living wage. Clinton’s statement is below:

“I applaud President Obama and Secretary of Labor Perez for these final overtime rules, which will lift up workers nationwide and help get incomes rising again for working families. Within the first year these rules are in effect, millions more workers will be eligible for overtime, finally getting paid in full for the hours they are putting in on the job.

But we have more work to do. No one who works 40 hours a week should have to raise a family in poverty. No one should have their fundamental rights to organize and bargain collectively stripped away by Republicans and their corporate allies. That’s why we need to raise the federal minimum wage back to the highest it’s ever been in this country and make sure it keeps rising over time, protect workers’ rights and safety on the job, and restore the basic bargain that built America’s mighty middle class—that if you work hard and play by the rules, you can get ahead and stay ahead.”

Hillary Clinton Drums Up Support in Iowa

On Saturday, Hillary Clinton hosted two town hall events and took part in one Iowa Democratic party event. It was a busy day in Iowa for Hillary for America with a number of high profile Democrats and celebrities meeting with voters. Clinton was also formally endorsed by The Des Moines Register this afternoon. But for Clinton, she remained the trail meeting with as many voters before the upcoming caucus. The first event of the day was in Clinton where she responded to recent questions about her health and stamina saying that she is healthy and that she would “match my endurance against anybody.” Clinton spoke to the crowd about a number of topics, then took questions during the town hall portion of the event. During a “Hard Hats for Hillary” event in Davenport, Clinton met with union members saying that she would fully support them as president. She spoke about how she has already been endorsed by twenty-four unions, including some of the largest in the nation. She spoke about her work to help those in the working class by raising the minimum wage and not weakening unions’ rights to collectively bargain. She then took questions from the voters in attendance.

For the final event of the day, Clinton stayed in Davenport for the Scott County Democratic Party’s Red, White & Blue Banquet. She was not the only Democratic presidential candidate in attendance as Martin O’Malley attended the event as well. Clinton spoke about her plans to bolster the economy, improve America’s infrastructure, and expand clean energy. She also pledged to not raise taxes on those in the middle class. Clinton Outlines Manufacturing Plan

On Tuesday, Hillary Clinton’s campaign released her outline to boost the United States’ manufacturing sector and assist communities that once had a strong manufacturing economy. Her plan includes a series of tax credits for communities that have lost manufacturing jobs, expanding access to grants and capital for smaller startups and manufacturers, stricter regulations for companies, and added emphasis on training and education. In the plan, Clinton argues that manufacturing is key to our economy because it provides higher paying jobs and boosts innovation. Losing these jobs not only hurts the economy, but diminishes America’s status as the leader in advanced manufacturing. Details of the full plan are available on The Briefing and are outlined below.

Hillary Rodham Clinton spoke to members of the Fight for $15 movement by phone. The group is fighting for a $15 minimum wage for fast food workers and their right to unionize. Clinton told the group, “I want to be your champion. I want to fight with you every day. I’m well aware that the folks on top already have plenty of friends in Washington, but we together will change the direction of this great country.” In addition, Clinton voiced her support for unions and their right to collectively bargain. Increasing the minimum wage and union support are expected to major points in Clinton’s platform for 2016.
