On Friday, Hillary Clinton delivered the annual commencement address at her alma mater, Wellesley College. Clinton last delivered the commencement address at the college twenty-five years ago, and she also spoke during her own graduation from the institution in 1969. She spoke about her time at Wellesley during her speech, and she also talked about the 2016 presidential campaign. She said, “You may have heard that things didn’t go exactly as I planned. But you know what, I’m doing OK.” Over the years, Clinton has been criticized for being ambitious. Perhaps overly ambitious. She offered some advice on that topic saying, “Don’t be afraid of your ambition, of your dreams or even your anger. Bill Clinton returned to Iowa on Wednesday where he spoke at two events. The first was in Sioux City where he spoke about all the negativity in the campaign cycle. “I hate all this poison that’s in this election. All this utter meanness, it’s unlimited. ” Instead of focusing on the negative, Bill spoke about Hillary Clinton’s optimistic view of America and how she plans to create jobs, grow the economy, and raise the minimum wage. He concluded by asking everyone to vote so their voice is heard. “Tell people they need to be a part of this. Yes, it’s important to have the first woman president and it’s important that the first woman president will be the best qualified person to run, but it’s more important to listen to what those children are saying…It’s just up to us,” he said.
Bill’s final event of the day was in Waterloo. During the event, Bill asked the crowd if they wanted the country to progress or go backward. When the crowd responded that they wanted progress, Bill spoke about a number of Hillary’s plans that are aimed at doing just that. He was optimistic as he spoke about his wife’s plan to create new jobs, create an economy that works for everyone, and build the middle class. Bill attacked Trump’s negative campaign saying, “Hillary says, ‘OK, your frustration and your anger is legitimate, but you need empowerment not resentment.’ And he says, ‘Oh no you don’t. You just keep right on resenting, so I can ride this horse as long as I can.’” He concluded the event by urging everyone to vote. Videos from today’s events will be posted when/if available.
Bill Clinton returned to North Carolina Sunday for two campaign events. Before his scheduled rallies, Bill attended church services at Mount Zion Baptist Church and Providence Baptist Church, both in Greensboro. At each, Bill referenced Biblical prophet Isaiah saying, “We’re all going home, and all we can control is what we do between this homecoming and that homegoing. Today, or sometime between now and Nov. 8, stand up like Isaiah and say, ‘We will be repairers of the breach.’” He encouraged those attending the services to vote and make sure they have a voice in this election. “Our voice is our vote. And our vote is our voice,” he said.
In Greensboro, Bill also attended a rally at LeBauer Park where he framed the 2016 election as one of the most important elections held in decades. Once in a great while, you have an election that defines a generation. When we started, it seemed to me that America’s challenges were pretty straightforward … but because of the actions, deeds, records and proposals of the other side, it is even more fundamental,” he said. Bill then spoke about Hillary Clinton’s optimistic blueprint for America and her plans to create new jobs, increase the minimum wage, and make college more affordable. Bill also went after Donald Trump for inciting anger and negativity saying, “You’ve got one candidate that says, ‘We’re stronger together.’ The other says, ‘No we’re not.’ One says, ‘I understand your anger, but answers are what you need.’ The other says, ‘No, we don’t, we like our anger.’” A video of Clinton address at Providence Baptist Church is below.
Bill then traveled to Charlotte where he spoke at the Hickory Grove Recreational Center about the importance of voting in the election. He criticized the Trump campaign and others for a campaign based on lies saying, “The other side wants a fact-free, name-calling election. I was naive. I thought we’d have a fact-based election.” Bill outlined a number of Hillary’s key platform proposals including her plans to create jobs and invest in the economy. Meanwhile, two fundraisers were held on behalf of Hillary for America. The first was in Chicago, Illinois and featured a conversation with singer/songwriter Cher. The second event was in New York City and featured a night of karaoke with Dennis Cheng and Mike Taylor.
Last night, recording artist Jon Bon Jovi held a free “Get Out the Vote” concert in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania on behalf of Hillary Clinton. Bon Jovi performed a number of his hits for the packed crowd. During the concert, Bill Clinton appeared and spoke briefing about the election saying, “There’s a lot at stake in this election. We’re going to decide, not between a Republican and a Democrat, but we’re going to decide what America is going to be like in the future…We’re going determine whether you prefer anger and name-calling or answers and empowerment.” Throughout the event, the audience was encouraged to vote. Today, Bill Clinton kicked off a two day campaign bus tour in North Carolina making stops in four cities, including an unannounced stop in Kinston. The three planned stops for the day were in Rocky Mount, Goldsboro, and Greenville. At each event, Clinton spoke in front of a campaign tour bus emblazoned with Hillary Clinton’s campaign motto “Stronger Together.” At each event, he spoke about Hillary’s plans to promote equality, raise the minimum wage, make college more affordable, and to create jobs by investing the country’s infrastructure, manufacturing, and clean energy. Bill also spoke about Hillary’s plans to improve the Affordable Care Act saying that parts of the law need to fixed, but scrapping the entire law is not productive. “You keep what’s good about the law and attack the problems. The worst problems are for people who are just above the subsidy line (paying full price), and we can fix that.”
Bill criticized Donald Trump and his campaign for their divisive tactics, but he asked everyone in attendance to reach out to Trump supporters because they are Americans too. “Do not treat them with the anger they often display toward us – love them to death. Look at them and say, ‘we need you.’ … You don’t want to choose somebody who’s the living embodiment of what’s wrong when you’ve got another person who’s the living embodiment of what we can make right.” Polls between Hillary and Trump are tight in North Carolina, and at each event Bill urged everyone to vote for Hillary and to take advantage of North Carolina’s early voting. Hillary Clinton returned to North Carolina on Sunday where she spoke at a Sunday morning church service and two campaign events. At each of the events, she appeared with Mothers of the Movement, a group of women who have lost children as a the result of gun violence. She began this morning in Durham where spoke at Union Baptist Church. Clinton spoke about the importance of reducing violence, reforming the criminal justice system, and working to end the racial divide in our country. A video of Clinton’s remarks is below.
Clinton spoke to a crowd of supporters at St. Augustine’s University in Raleigh about her plans as president, but she also turned the focus of her message away from herself and on candidates running for office down ballot. She spoke about the importance of electing Democratic Senate candidate Deborah Ross in North Carolina, and Clinton encouraged voters to support Ross in addition to supporting her and Tim Kaine on November 8th. Clinton then traveled to Charlotte where she spoke to a group of supporters at the University of North Carolina – Charlotte. During her speech, Clinton went after Donald Trump for his pledge to not accept the results of the election saying that he is a “direct threat to our democracy.” Clinton then spoke about a number of her key platform proposals including a plan to invest in the infrastructure, increasing investments in the economy, and her plan to make college affordable for everyone. Clinton said that she understands that not everyone supports her and there will be people that vote for Trump, but she wants to be a president for everyone. “I want to be the president for every American – Democrats, Republicans, independents. We have to bring this country together. We have to have everyone pulling in the same direction. I understand some people are angry, but anger is not a plan,” she said. On Friday, Bill Clinton kicked off a campaign bus tour in Florida. He began in Orlando with a speech at the Florida Education Association Delegate Assembly. During the event, he spoke about the importance of the election and its potential impact on education. Bill spoke about Hillary Clinton’s plans to expand access to early childhood education and her plan to ensure that students graduate from college debt-free. He said that Hillary will be better than Donald Trump on education, jobs, and everything else. Bill said, “You can’t build a wall around yourself or the world in this world of social media. You’ve got to build bridges to empowerment. We are close to being able to rise together again. America needs a ‘What are we going to do about it?’ President.” Watch a video from the event below.
Bil then traveled to Jacksonville where he spoke to a crowd of supporters at a local library. Bill went after Trump for his proposals to scrap the Affordable Care Act saying that we cannot end a law that helped more than 20 million Americans access to health insurance. He also outlined a number of Hillary’s other policies including her plans to invest in the country’s infrastructure, clean energy, and the manufacturing sector. Bill explained that these investments would all lead to new jobs. Bill’s final event of the day was in Quincy. He focused on a number of Hillary’s platform points including her plans to create new jobs, pass comprehensive immigration reform, and pass sensible gun control that requires background checks and closes a number of loopholes. Bill spoke about the importance of voting and the work that will have to be done after the election to bring the country together for the common good. “That’s what ‘Stronger Together’ means. So you’ve got anger on one side and answers on the other. You’ve got resentment on one side and empowerment on the other. You’ve got endless political conflict and name-calling on one side and the promise of real cooperation on the other. You’ve got walls on one side and bridges on the other,” he said. Meanwhile, in London, a fundraiser was held for Hillary for America. The event was only open to American citizens and included a conversation with John Podesta, Campaign Chair and Wendy Sherman, Former Under Secretary of State for Political Affairs.
On Thursday, First Lady Michelle Obama campaigned on behalf of Hillary Clinton in Phoenix, Arizona. Obama spoke to a crowd of over 7,000 about the optimistic vision for America offered by Clinton and her campaign platform. She condemned Donald Trump for his hateful rhetoric, and she blasted his refusal to say that he would accept the results of the 2016 election, regardless of the outcome. She said, “You don’t keep American democracy in suspense.” Obama then spoke about the importance of voting and how Arizona will play a vital role in this election. She admitted that this election cycle has been rough, but she said, “Do not let yourself get tired or frustrated or disgusted by everything you’ve seen in this campaign. Please, be encouraged. I have traveled the world, and I am telling you we still live in the greatest country on earth. We have every reason to be hopeful. Remember that in difficult times, we don’t give up. We don’t discard our highest ideals. No! We rise up to meet them. We rise up to perfect our union. That is the power of hope!” Watch a video of Obama’s speech below.
President Barack Obama returned to the campaign trail on Thursday and spoke at an event in Miami Gardens, Florida. During his speech on the campus of Florida Memorial University, Obama spoke about the importance of electing Hillary Clinton president and Democrats such as Patrick Murphy to the Senate. He spoke about the progress made during his administration and said that the only way to ensure the progress continues is for Democrats to retake Congress and Donald Trump to never get near the White House. He said, “Donald Trump has nothing to offer but anger and grievance and blame. And so his closing argument asks what do you have to lose? Well, I’m here to tell you: everything. Donald Trump wants to reverse progress. Marco Rubio wants to help him. You want to give me a good sendoff? You want to give Michelle a good sendoff? Work as hard for Hillary and Patrick as you did for us.” Obama urged everyone to get out and vote on November 8th. A video from the event is below.
Bill Clinton was in New Hampshire on Monday where he spoke at two events on behalf of Hillary Clinton. His first event was in Hanover on the campus of Dartmouth College where he focused on the positive things have happened in the United States over the last eight years. While he admitted that there is still progress to be made, he believes that Hillary has the plans to continue economic growth and ensure that everyone has an opportunity to prosper in America. He contrasted the message of Hillary’s campaign with that of Republican Donald Trump’s saying that “Strong Together” is far more positive then “Make America Great Again.” Bill wrapped up the event by talking about New Hampshire’s role in the election and encouraging everyone to vote on November 8th. In Keene, Bill spoke on the campus of Keene State College and largely focused on the same themes as he did in Hanover. He urged voters to remain optimistic about America’s future and elect someone who is optimistic as well. “You cannot give this country’s future away to people who think anger is better than answers, that resentment is much better than empowerment, that endless conflict is better than cooperation,” he said of Trump. Bill then looked to after the election and called for unity saying, “One of the things I think we have to do when this election is over — every one of us, each in our own way — is not treat the people on the other side the way they and their candidate have treated us.
