Clinton Campaign Statement on Trump’s NATO Comments

On Wednesday during the RNC, Governor Mike Pence, running mate of Donald Trump, commented that as president Trump would stand with our allies. Trump than contradicted Pence saying that the United States may not defend NATO members in the Batlics, even against a Russian attack. Trump’s comments about NATO have come under fire in recent weeks. He has been criticized for waffling on the pledge to defend our allies. In a statement, Hillary for America Senior Policy Advisor Jake Sullivan criticized Trump’s views on NATA and accused him of being too close to Russian president Vladimir Putin. A copy of the statement is below.

“Tonight, Mike Pence said Donald Trump would stand with our allies. Tonight, Donald Trump flatly contradicted him.

For decades, the United States has given an ironclad guarantee to our NATO allies: we will come to their defense if they are attacked, just as they came to our defense after 9/11. Donald Trump was asked if he would honor that guarantee. He said… maybe, maybe not.

Ronald Reagan would be ashamed. Harry Truman would be ashamed. Republicans, Democrats and Independents who help build NATO into the most successful military alliance in history would all come to the same conclusion: Donald Trump is temperamentally unfit and fundamentally ill-prepared to be our Commander in Chief.

The President is supposed to be the leader of the free world. Donald Trump apparently doesn’t even believe in the free world.

Over the course of this campaign, Trump has displayed a bizarre and occasionally obsequious fascination with Russia’s strongman, Vladimir Putin. And he has the policy positions – and advisors – to match. Just this week, we learned that the Trump campaign went to great lengths to remove a plank from the GOP platform about aid to Ukraine that would have offended Putin, bucking a strongly held position within his own party. Previously, he celebrated the Brexit vote, and in turn, casually predicted the disintegration of Europe. And now, he won’t even commit to protecting our NATO allies against a Russian invasion. It is fair to assume that Vladimir Putin is rooting for a Trump presidency.

More broadly, Trump has apparently decided that America lacks the moral authority to advance our interests and values around the world.  He has adopted the logic and positions of China, Russia, and Iran. And there will be plenty of time in the days ahead to address his strategy to strengthen our coalition against ISIS, which apparently can be summed up in one word, ‘meetings.’

The choice in this election is clear. Hillary Clinton will defend our allies. She will protect our people. And she will uphold a bipartisan tradition of American foreign policy that has made us the greatest force for peace, progress, and prosperity the world has ever known.”

Hillary Clinton Statement on Nice, France Terrorist Attack

On Friday, Hillary Clinton released a statement condemning the terrorist attack in Nice, France that killed 84 people and left more than 200 injured. Clinton expressed her sympathies and stressed the importance of not giving in to terrorists. Calling the attack “cowardly,” Clinton said that we will continue to work with our allies around the world to fight terrorist action. A copy of Clinton’s statement is below.

“Once again, it appears that terrorists have struck at one of our closest allies in Europe, attacking families celebrating the history and culture of their country on Bastille Day. Every American stands in strong solidarity with the people of France, and we say with one voice: we will not be intimidated. We will never allow terrorists to undermine the egalitarian and democratic values that underpin our very way of life. This cowardly attack only strengthens our commitment to our alliance and to defeating terrorism around the world. Our thoughts and prayers are with the families of those killed and injured, and with all our friends in France.”

Hillary Clinton Interviewed on CNN

On Thursday night, following the terrorist attack in Nice, France, Hillary Clinton was interviewed via telephone by CNN’s Anderson Cooper. Appearing on Anderson Cooper 360, Clinton and Cooper discussed the attacks, and she spoke about how the United States needs to approach the war against radical jihadists. She stressed the importance of working with our allies and gathering intelligence to combat terrorism across the globe. A video of the interview is below.

Hillary Clinton Interviewed by Bill O’Reilly

On last night’s episode of Fox News’s The O’Reilly Factor, Hillary Clinton spoke to host Bill O’Reilly via the telephone. Speaking about the terrorist attack in Nice, France, Clinton stressed the importance of gathering intelligence and working with our allies to defeat extremists across the world. She said, “We’ve got to do more to understand that this is a war against these terrorist groups — these radical jihadist groups; it’s a different kind of war. Hillary Clinton Statement on Terrorist Attack in Dhaka, Bangladesh

Twenty hostages were killed, including one American citizen, during a standoff in a Bangladesh restaurant between seven Islamist militants and authorities. Thirteen of the hostages survived. All but one of the terrorists were killed in the raid by local police, and the surviving shooter was arrested. The terrorist group ISIS claimed responsibility for the attack, which lasted eleven hours. Hillary Clinton released a statement extending her sympathies to the families of the victims. She condemned the event and vowed to work with our allies to defeat ISIS and radical jihadism. A copy of Clinton’s statement is below:

“The terrorist assault on a bakery and restaurant in Dhaka is a reminder that an attack halfway around the world is still an attack on all of us, in the everyday places we hold dear.  The victims in Dhaka came from all over–from Italy, from Japan, from India, and, of course, from Bangladesh. We have learned that at least three attended college here in the United States, including one American citizen. Today, we say with one voice: this campaign of fear and hatred and violence will not succeed. We will not retreat. We will not turn our backs on each other. The United States stands firmly with our friends and allies in the fight to defeat ISIS and radical jihadism around the world. Our thoughts and prayers are with the victims, their families, and the people of Bangladesh.”

Hillary Clinton Statement on Istanbul Terrorist Attack

Yesterday, 36 were killed and 147 injured when three terrorists attacked the Istanbul Ataturk Airport in Turkey. While no group has claimed responsibility for the attack, a number of countries have pledged to support Turkey. Hillary Clinton released a statement of sympathy and vowed to work with our NATO allies, including Turkey, to fight terrorism around the globe. A copy of Clinton’s statement is below:

“Terrorists have struck again in the heart of one of our NATO allies—and all Americans stand united with the people of Turkey against this campaign of hatred and violence. Already, stories of heroism on the part of Turkish police are emerging, as their quick actions to confront the suspects may have prevented an even worse tragedy. Today’s attack in Istanbul only strengthens our resolve to defeat the forces of terrorism and radical jihadism around the world. And it reminds us that the United States cannot retreat. We must deepen our cooperation with our allies and partners in the Middle East and Europe to take on this threat. Such cooperation is essential to protecting the homeland and keeping our country safe. Our thoughts and prayers are with the victims, their families, and the Turkish people.”

Hillary Clinton Reacts After Brussels Terrorist Attacks

Following this morning’s terrorist attacks in Brussels, Belgium that left at least 30 dead and 230 more injured, Hillary Clinton released a statement assuring solidarity with the Belgians. ISIS has taken responsibility for the attack, and Clinton called for increased cooperation with our allies to “defeat terrorism and radical jihadism around the world.” Clinton’s full statement is below:

Terrorists have once again struck at the heart of Europe, but their campaign of hate and fear will not succeed. The people of Brussels, of Europe, and of the world will not be intimidated by these vicious killers. Today Americans stand in solidarity with our European allies. Our thoughts and prayers are with the families of those killed and wounded, and all the people of Belgium. These terrorists seek to undermine the democratic values that are the foundation of our alliance and our way of life, but they will never succeed. Today’s attacks will only strengthen our resolve to stand together as allies and defeat terrorism and radical jihadism around the world.
