Hillary Clinton Statement on Endorsement of Association of Flight Attendants

Hillary Clinton received the endorsement of the Association of Flight Attendants adding to the growing list of labor unions supporting Clinton for president. In a release, the group states their support of Clinton stems from their long relationship with her. They said, “We have experience with Hillary Clinton as a champion for Flight Attendants, especially as the leading voice for the technical correction to FMLA and the relentless advocate for 9/11 first responders. Recognizing the importance of this election and our experience with Secretary Clinton, the AFA-CWA Board of Directors endorses Hillary Clinton for the next President of the United States.” Clinton responded to the endorsement with the following statement.

“For over 70 years, the Association of Flight Attendants has helped raise wages, benefits, and working conditions for its members all across – and above – America.  Over the decades, it has brought our nation’s attention to important issues like discrimination, outsourcing, and equal pay. Every American worker deserves an advocate like the AFA in their corner, and I’m honored to have earned their endorsement.

Throughout my career, the AFA and I have partnered to fight for fairer labor standards. In the Senate, I led the effort to ensure AFA members had access to Family and Medical Leave Act benefits. And we’ve always stood up for women who have been treated unequally in the workforce.

The stakes in this election could not be higher. Donald Trump stood on a debate stage and said that wages are ‘too high’ in this country.  He opposes policies that would make it easier for people to balance work and family, including guaranteeing paid leave for all families and working for equal pay for women. He even personally hired a union-busting firm to keep workers at his hotel in Las Vegas from organizing.

If I’m elected in November, labor will always have a champion in the White House. Together, we’ll build an economy that works for everyone, not just those at the top. We’ll say no to bad trade deals, no to attacks on workers, and no to discriminatory and sexist policies. And I’m glad to know the AFA will be at my side as we stand up for American workers.”

Bill Clinton Campaigns for Hillary/Kaine in Michigan and Ohio

On Labor Day, Bill Clinton returned to the campaign trail for Hillary Clinton and Time Kaine attending Labor Day events in Michigan and Ohio. He began in Detroit where he took part in a Labor Day parade and spoke to a crowd of supporters at a United Auto Workers (UAW) picnic. Bill spoke about Hillary’s plans to increase job growth and continue to invest in the economy by improving the country’s infrastructure. He said that Hillary’s plans would return the country to a similar condition in which he left it at the end of his presidency. He promised that incomes will rise across the board and an increase in jobs saying that during his presidency, “We had 22.7 million new jobs in those eight years. We had 40% more jobs in my eight years than Ronald Reagan did.” A video from the Detroit event will be added when/if available.

In Cincinnati, Ohio Bill visited with patrons of Graeter’s Ice Cream before giving a speech at the annual AFL-CIO Labor Day Picnic. Bill spoke about the importance of labor and labor unions saying that Hillary would fully support unionization as president. He then spoke about a number of Hillary’s platform proposals before asking attendees to support her in November. He said, “You should vote for the person who will be best for you, your community, your family. I think you should vote for Hillary because we’re stronger together than stronger apart.” A video of Bill’s speech is below.

Hillary Clinton Endorsed by the AFL-CIO

On Thursday, Hillary Clinton earned the endorsement of the largest group of labor unions in the country, the AFL-CIO. Representing 12.5 million members, the board voted to support Clinton. AFL-CIO President Richard Trumka said, “Hillary Clinton is a proven leader who shares our values. Throughout the campaign, she has demonstrated a strong commitment to the issues that matter to working people, and our members have taken notice. The activism of working people has already been a major force in this election and is now poised to elect Hillary Clinton and move America forward.” Clinton released a statement saying she is honored to receive the group’s support and vowed to fight for labor rights. A copy of Clinton’s statement is below:

“I am honored to have earned the endorsement of the AFL-CIO.

The AFL-CIO is one of America’s most vital organizations, having been on the front lines of the fight for good-paying jobs and careers with benefits and dignity for more than a century. AFL-CIO member unions contribute to virtually every sector of our economy and are on the job in every corner of our country—building our infrastructure, teaching our children, sowing our fields, operating our ports, and entertaining us on stage and screen.

Members of the AFL-CIO know, as I do, that we are stronger together. We are stronger when we are investing in our country and our future. As President, I will make the biggest investment in infrastructure since the Interstate Highway System—because to build a 21st century economy, we need 21st century roads, ports, transit systems, water systems, and electric grids. We will fight for good schools in every ZIP code—because all of our children deserve a chance to live up to their God-given potential. And we will fight to raise the federal minimum wage back to the highest it’s ever been, to finally join all other industrial nations in guaranteeing paid family leave for workers, and at last secure equal pay for women.

And we know we are stronger when we have each other’s backs. Workers’ rights to organize, to bargain collectively, to be safe on the job, and to retire with dignity and security after years of hard work are fundamental to our country and to our economy. Hillary Clinton Campaigns in Pennsylvania

On Wednesday, Hillary Clinton attended two organizing events in Pennsylvania ahead of their primary on April 26. Her first stop was in Philadelphia where she spoke at the AFL-CIO Convention. During her speech, she expressed her confidence that she would be the Democratic nominee for president and vowed to make labor and the economy a priority as president. She also criticized comments made by Republican front runner Donald Trump saying, “You’ve got other candidates talking about building walls and putting up barriers against each other, right? My campaign is about breaking down all the barriers holding working families back. My campaign is about building again those ladders of opportunity and empowerment so people can claim their own piece of the American dream.” A full video of her speech is below.

Clinton then spoke at an organizing event on the campus of Carnegie Mellon University in Pittsburgh. Clinton spoke to a crowd of about 2,000 people who crowded in the gymnasium and on the lawn outside to hear her speak, and she apologized for not speaking at a larger venue. During her speech, Clinton spoke about her plans to continue the progress of President Barack Obama’s administration by improving heath care, making higher education more affordable for those in school and those paying off school debt, and expanding clean energy. She criticized Republican policies and said that a real Democrat needed to continue the progressive movement. A full video of her speech is below.

Clinton Celebrates Labor Day in Iowa

To celebrate Labor Day, Hillary Rodham Clinton attended a number of Labor Day events across the state of Iowa. In Cedar Rapids, she was interviewed by the Associated Press where she was questioned about her email server, her presidential campaign, and her rivals. The primary purpose of the day for Clinton was to celebrate organized labor by attending a number of celebrations across the state. The topics that she focused on were income inequity, the minimum wage, and unions’ rights to collectively bargain. She addressed the Hawkeye Labor Council AFL-CIO Labor Day picnic in Cedar Rapids before heading to the Quad Cities area of Iowa and Illinois.

Clinton continued her focus on labor topics at the Quad City Federation of Labor’s Salute to Labor Chicken Fry in Hampton. She spoke about the importance of organized labor and its historical relevance. She pledged to support labor unions if she is elected president. While in Hampton, Clinton also received an endorsement from Iowa Representative Dave Loebsack. A video from Clinton’s speech in Hampton is below.

This week, Clinton is scheduled to give a speech in Washington, DC supporting the agreement with Iran on Wednesday, appear on The Ellen DeGeneres Show on Thursday, and is scheduled to make appearances in Ohio and Wisconsin on Thursday. Clinton Hold Town Hall in Las Vegas

On Tuesday, Hillary Rodham Clinton held a town hall at the Pearson Community Center in North Las Vegas. The event was attended by about 300 people, and Clinton spoke about college affordability. She also criticized Republicans for not talking about college affordability, equal pay for women, incarceration rates, and other issues that are on the minds of Americans. Clinton then answered a number of questions from the audience.

Following the event, Clinton toured the Carpenters International Training Center in Las Vegas and is scheduled to give a speech at the Nevada State AFL-CIO annual convention this evening.

Clinton Visits AFL-CIO

Hillary Rodham Clinton visited the AFL-CIO in Maryland today seeking the group’s endorsement. The labor organization has been reluctant to throw their support behind any candidate this early in the primary, but Clinton is hoping to get their support. She focused on increasing the minimum wage. “I think it is important that we set a national minimum, but then we get out of the way of cities and states that believe that they can and should go higher,” she told reporters following the visit.

Following the event, Clinton spoke with reporters where she answered a number of questions, including one about the recent attempts by Congress to defund Planned Parenthood. Clinton criticized the efforts saying, “I think it is regrettable that Republicans are once again trying to undermine, even end those services that so many women have needed and taken advantage of. I think that it’s another effort by the Republicans to try to limit the health care options of women and we should not let them succeed once again.”
