Clinton Endorsed by Additional Local Newspapers

In the lead-up to tonight’s second presidential debate, Hillary Clinton has secured the endorsement of four more major local newspapers. In Missouri, Clinton was ensorsed by the St. Louis Post-Dispatch. The paper’s ediorial board says, “Clinton understands what an awesome responsibility it is to lead a nation because she has spent the bulk of her adult life participating in that very endeavor. That’s why she remains: America’s only choice.” Then, she also received the endorsement of the Boston Globe. While they admit Clinton has faults, they begin thier editorial with a definative staement: “This election isn’t a close call. Only one candidate on the ballot Nov. 8 belongs anywhere near the White House, and it’s Hillary Clinton.”

Breaking with thier conservative tradition, Ohio’s The Columbus Dispatch endorsed Clinton saying that while they have tradionally backed Republican candidates, Donald Trump does not represent Republican values. “The stakes are too high to sit out this election and risk letting Trump misuse the awesome power of the presidency. The Dispatch urges voters to elect Hillary Clinton,” the editorial board said. The Alabama Media Group also wrote of thier support for Clinton in an op-ed published Sunday. The groups editorial board wrote, “The 2016 election is not a choice between two candidates equally fit to serve, or a choice between the ideology of two parties. Trump is a unique threat and in an election where supporting third party candidates splits a national vote, we see but one option. Clinton may be the second least popular major party candidate in 50 years but she is also one of the most qualified candidates in history. And ultimately, if it isn’t her, it’s him. And that would be a disaster for America and the world.”

First Lady Michelle Obama Campaigns in Pennsylvania

First Lady Michelle Obama returned to the campaign trail on Wednesday holding two events in Pennsylvania. Her first event was a rally in Philadelphia where she spoke at La Salle University. During her speech, Obama focused on a number of Hillary Clinton’s key platform points including reducing the cost of higher education. She also went after Republican Donald Trump for his attacks on her husband, President Barack Obama, and his lack of leadership, experience, and the temperament necessary to be president. “A president just can’t pop off or lash out irrationally. No, we need an adult in the White House,” she said adding that Clinton is the right person for the job. A video of Obama’s speech is below.

Obama then traveled to Pittsburgh where she spoke to a packed crowd at the Peterson Events Center. Her speech was similar to the one given in Philadelphia, and she focused on Clinton’s calm understanding of issues and her ability to understand details. She urged everyone to vote on November 8 and ensure that their voice is heard. Speaking to the crowd of primarily younger voters she said, “The stakes are far too high. Clinton Unveils Plan to Support those Living with Autism

At an event held today in Sioux City, Iowa, Hillary Clinton outlined her plan to to help families who face Autism on a daily basis. The sweeping plan includes increasing screening, improving treatments, creating partnerships for employment opportunities, and committing additional research funding to better understand Autism. During the town hall, Clinton introduced her plan, then took questions from those in attendance. In addition to discussing her plan at the event in Sioux City, Clinton also released additional details on The Briefing. An outline of her plan is below.

• Screening and Awareness
  • Boost early screening rates with a nationwide outreach campaign
  • Promote multi-sector awareness campaign
• Autism Treatment and Insurance Coverage
  • Improve access to autism services in the ACA marketplace and through private health insurance
  • Increase state compliance with Medicaid coverage requirements for children with autism and other developmental disabilities and create an autism-service-access scorecard that makes state Medicaid compliance publicly accessible
  • Work with the Department of Defense to ensure military families have full access to autism services through TRICARE
• Safety and Services for Children and Youth
  • Enact the Keeping All Students Safe Act
  • Protect children with autism from bullying in their classrooms
• Community Supports and Services for Individuals Transitioning into Adulthood
  • Launch a new Autism Works Initiative consisting of a post-graduation transition plan for every student with autism aging out of school-based services and a public-private partnership with employers
  • Combine the Autism Works Initiative with new legislation to fund employment demonstration grants for individuals with autism and other disabilities
  • Increase housing opportunities for autistic youth and adults
• Caregiving
  • Encourage all states to enact ABLE legislation and ensure consumer protection for ABLE account beneficiaries
  • Provide new support to caregivers
• Research
  • Significantly increase funding so that the government can invest more in autism research
  • Call for the first-ever adult autism prevalence and needs study
• Enforcement
  • Ensure states meet their obligations under IDEA’s Child Find Program to identify, screen, and refer children with disabilities for services
  • Ensure access to assistive technologies
  • Enforce mental health parity protections
  • Continue vigorous enforcement of Olmstead
  • Dedicate new funding to autism protection and advocacy
