Hillary Clinton Give Commencement Address at Wellesley College

On Friday, Hillary Clinton delivered the annual commencement address at her alma mater, Wellesley College. Clinton last delivered the commencement address at the college twenty-five years ago, and she also spoke during her own graduation from the institution in 1969. She spoke about her time at Wellesley during her speech, and she also talked about the 2016 presidential campaign. She said, “You may have heard that things didn’t go exactly as I planned. But you know what, I’m doing OK.” Over the years, Clinton has been criticized for being ambitious. Perhaps overly ambitious. She offered some advice on that topic saying, “Don’t be afraid of your ambition, of your dreams or even your anger. Those are powerful forces, but harness them to make a difference in the world.” Watch a video of Clinton’s full speech below.

Hillary Clinton to Release New Book, Speak at Alma Mater

Hillary Clinton is returning to public spotlight. She has attended a few events since she lost the presidential race in November, but today several upcoming events were announced. The biggest announcement was from publisher Simon & Schuster who will publish a collection of personal essays by Clinton this fall. The book is described to include a number of her favorite quotes to “tell stories from her life, up to and including her experiences in the 2016 presidential campaign.” Simon & Schuster also announced a children’s book version of Clinton’s book, It Takes a Village, will be released in September. The new edition will feature illustrations by Marla Frazee and all proceeds will be donated to charity.

It was also announced that she will be returning to the speech circuit with several events planned in the coming months. The most notable will be a commencement address at Wellesley College, her alma mater. Clinton gained notoriety for becoming the first student speaker at her own commencement in 1969. Other speeches on tap for Clinton include an event at the United States Postal Service honoring fashion designer Oscar de la Renta, a speech organized by Vital Voices on International Women’s Day, and a speech at a New York LGBT Community Center. Hillary Clinton Thanks Volunteers and Supporters in Conference Call

On Friday evening, Hillary Clinton held a conference call with supporters and campaign volunteers to thank them for their hard work and dedication during the campaign. Clinton said that while the loss was tough, we can still fight for the causes we believe in going forward. She urged everyone not to give up and to stay involved in the process. Tim Kaine Addresses the Human Rights Campaign Dinner

On Saturday, Tim Kaine gave the keynote address at the Human Rights Campaign National Dinner in Washington, DC. During his speech, Kaine spoke about his personal support for the LGBTQ community and Hillary Clinton’s campaign pledge to ensure equal rights for the LGBTQ community is ensured with the passage of the Equality Act. Kaine, a Catholic, spoke about the Catholic Church’s position on same-sex marriage saying, “My full, complete, unconditional support for marriage equality is at odds with the current doctrine of the church that I still attend. But I think that’s going to change, too.” He also criticized Donald Trump’s position on LGBTQ rights saying that Trump is “no friend to this community, and he’s no friend to the value of equality.” A video of Kaine’s speech is below.

While in Washington, DC, Kaine also attended a DC for45 fundraising event for Hillary for America.

Hillary Clinton Interviewed by MSNBC’s Chuck Todd

On Saturday, Hillary Clinton was interviewed for MSNBC by Chuck Todd. The interview came after Clinton was voluntarily interviewed by the FBI about her use of a private email server during her tenure as Secretary of State. During the phone interview, Clinton said that she could not give details, but that she was ready to talk to the FBI when they were ready. “I’ve been eager to do it and I was pleased to have the opportunity to assist the department in bringing its review to a conclusion,” she said. Hillary Clinton Interviewed about Email Server by the FBI

On Saturday morning, Hillary Clinton gave a voluntary interview with the Department of Justice and FBI about her email setup during her tenure as Secretary of State. The interview took place at FBI headquarters and lasted approximately three and a half hours. The FBI is currently investigating  Clinton’s use of a private email server while she served in the State Department. The FBI is expected to release its finding in the next few weeks. Following the interview, Hillary for America spokesman Nick Merrill released the following statement:

“Secretary Clinton gave a voluntary interview this morning about her email arrangements while she was Secretary. She is pleased to have had the opportunity to assist the Department of Justice in bringing this review to a conclusion. Out of respect for the investigative process, she will not comment further on her interview.”

Clinton Responds to State Department Report Criticizing Private Email Use

Earlier this week, the State Department Inspector General released the findings of their investigation into the state of department email security, including Hillary Clinton’s use of a private email server during her tenure as Secretary of State. The report is critical of Clinton’s decision to exclusively use a private email address and not one that was government issues. The report said that Clinton did not seek approval before using an alternate email address, and the Inspector General said that she did not follow proper procedures in turning over all work related email before leaving the State Department. All emails have since been turned over.

The report is also critical of the State Department admitting that the current policies for record preservation are outdated and the technology is outdated as well. The report mentions former Secretaries of State that used private email addresses and failed to turn over any work related content. Former Secretary of State Colin Powell also used a personal email address to conduct government business, but he has stated that he is unable to turn over records because they no longer exist. While Clinton is not the first Secretary of State to use a private email address to conduct business, she is the first to exclusively use a private server.

Clinton and team immediately responded, and she spoke to several news outlets by phone to address the report. Clinton spoke with reporters from Univision, ABC, MSNBC, and CNN, all of which asked a number of questions surrounding the report and its findings. Clinton, once again, admitted that using a private email server was a mistake, but she quickly turned the conversation to the election and Republican nominee Donald Trump. Speaking with Chuck Todd on MSNBC’s Meet the Press Daily, she said, “I said this many times, it was still a mistake. If I could go back, I would do it differently. And I understand people have concerns about this, but I hope and expect voters to look at the full picture of everything I’ve done and stand for. And the full threat posed by Donald Trump. If they do, I have faith in the American people that they will make the right choice.”

The State Department’s review is the first report regarding her emails to be released. A report from the FBI is expected to be released sometime this summer. Clinton has said on several occasions that she wants the emails from her private server available to the public in the interest of transparency. The State Department released the final batch of emails at the end of February. Since the release of the emails was part of the Freedom of Information Act (FOIA), all the emails were posted to the State Department’s FOIA website. To access the emails, follow the steps below:

1. Go to http://foia.state.gov/Search
2. Type “F-2014-20439” in the Case Number field
3. Click on the arrow next to the “Posted Date” column header and select “Sort Descending” so that the recently released documents show first
4. Click the title of the document in the “Subject” field to open a PDF copy

Hillary Clinton Delivers Keynote Address at Circle of Mothers Restoration Weekend

On Saturday, Hillary Clinton gave the keynote address during the Circle of Mothers Restoration Weekend in Fort Lauderdale, Florida. The event was hosted by the Trayvon Martin Foundation and was aimed at empowering the mothers of gun violence victims. During her speech, Clinton vowed to stand up to the gun lobby saying, “Unlike Donald Trump, I will not pander to the gun lobby and we will not be silenced and we will not be intimidated. As long as children anywhere are being killed by gun violence, we will keep fighting.” Clinton said that she would continue to press ahead with her proposals to strengthen background checks requirements for the purchase of the firearm.

At the center of her argument is her concern for the safety of families and children. She said, “Parents, teachers and schools should have the right to keep guns out of classrooms, just like Donald Trump does at many of his hotels by the way.” Clinton went on to criticize Trump for his fear tactics saying that she is not anti-gun and that she knows there are responsible gun owners. But that something needs to be done to reduce the number of deaths as a result of firearm. Clinton said, “Something is wrong when so many young people just starting their lives are dying. Something is very wrong, my friends, and this election gives us a chance to keep trying to make it right.” A video from the event will be posted when/if available.

Clinton also attended two fundraisers today. The first was in Washington, DC and was hosted by Julius Genachowski and Rachel Goslins. The second event was in Forth Lauderdale and hosted at the home of Pam Africk and Shari Olefson.

Clinton Addresses Women’s Rights in New Hampshire

Today, Hillary Rodham Clinton returned to Portsmouth, New Hampshire on the 20th Anniversary of her Beijing speech on women’s rights. The primary topic of her speech in Portsmouth was women’s rights, and she directly criticized Republican presidential candidate Donald Trump for his disregard for women’s rights. She said, “He [Trump] said he would do a much better job for women than I would. That’s a general election debate that’s going to be a lot of fun. He says he loves women. In fact, to quote him, he ‘cherishes’ us. Well, if it’s all the same to you, Mr. Trump, I’d rather you stop cherishing women and start respecting women.”
