On Saturday, Hillary Clinton took a brief break from campaigning in New York to attend a number of campaign events in California. While Clinton did attend a number of fundraisers, including two that were attended by actor George Clooney and his wife Amal, she also spoke to supporters at the Cox Library on the campus of Southwest College. Clinton gave a speech inside the library where she outlined her plan to raise the federal minimum wage to $12 and applauded California for passing a law that will raise its minimum wage to $15 by 2022. Clinton explained that it is important to understand that while California can afford a higher minimum wage, $12 is a good baseline for the entire country. Clinton told the crowd that she is looking forward to campaigning in California before their June 7 primary. Following her speech, she spoke briefly to a crowd of supporters outside the library who were unable to get into the already crowded room. A video of her speech is below.

Hillary Clinton wrapped up her two days of campaigning in New York by attending an Organizing Event in Purchase, New York. During the event, she spoke about her plans to expand the job market, raise wages for everyone, and make college more affordable. At one point, Clinton was interrupted by supporters of Bernie Sanders, and she replied to their protests saying, “I know the Bernie people came to say that. We’€™re very sorry you’€™re leaving.” She went on to say, “As they’€™re leaving, I want to say I have earned 9 million votes in this election already. I have 1 million more votes than Donald Trump, and I have 2 1/2 million more votes than Bernie Sanders.” A video of her speech is below.

Before her speech in Purchase, Clinton hosted a backstage rally fundraiser for the campaign. In the evening, Clinton also attended two fundraisers in Massachusetts. The first was in Boston and included Academy Award winning actor Forest Whitaker. The second event was held in Chestnut Hill and was hosted by Stacey and Larry Lucchino.

Clinton Returns to California for Fundraisers

Last week, Hillary Rodham Clinton attended events in San Francisco and Los Angeles. On Friday, she attended three fundraisers in Hollywood that were attended by Leonardo DiCaprio, Dustin Lance Black, Elizabeth Banks, Howard Gordon, and Bruce Cohen. The events took place at the homes of HBO’s Michael Lombardo and actor Tobey Maguire. Earlier in the day, Clinton also attended a fundraiser at the home of Westfield Corp co-CEO Peter Lowy. She is reported to have addressed a number of issues, including the recent shooting in a Charleston, South Carolina church. All three events were closed to the press.

Saturday, Clinton addressed the The US Conference of Mayors where she called for stronger gun restrictions following the shooting at Emanuel African Methodist Episcopal Church in Charleston. She acknowledged that there is still work to be done with regard to race relations. She said, “Despite our best efforts and our highest hopes, America’s long struggle with race is far from finished. I know this is a difficult topic to talk about. I know that so many of us hoped by electing our first black president, we had turned the page on this chapter in our history. I know there are truths we do not like to say out loud or discus with our children. But we have to.”
