Hillary Clinton Addresses Annie’s List Luncheon

On Friday, Hillary Clinton traveled to Houston, Texas where she spoke at a fundraising luncheon for Annie’s List. Clinton gave a short speech during the event in which she spoke about the United States’ actions against the regime of Syrian President Bashar Assad and the Trump administration’s response. Clinton remarks were not focused on national politics. Instead, she spoke about the importance of turning Texas blue during the mid-term elections in 2018 and the next presidential election in 2020. She said, “A lot of the best young Democrats in America are right here in Texas, and that’s especially true for young Democratic women.” She urged everyone to keep fighting, and most importantly, voting adding, “I know we can win in 2018. If we can get people to turn out and vote, Texas will be blue.” Watch a video of Clinton’s speech below.

Tim Kaine, Chelsea Clinton Campaign for Hillary

On Monday, Tim Kaine campaigned for Hillary Clinton in Denver, Colorado. During the event, Kaine outlined a number of Hillary’s platform points and spoke about her strong performance at last night’s debate. Kaine also spoke about Republican Donald Trump’s 2005 vulgar comments about women saying that men should be insulted by them as well. He said that Trump “cannot look at a woman and see an equal” and real men do not talk about women in a derogatory way. The event also featured a performance by musician Dave Matthews. Chelsea Clinton, meanwhile, campaigned in Minnesota and Wisconsin. She began her day in Rochester, Minnesota where she spoke to local residents about her mother’s policies and why she is the best candidate for the job. She then spoke about the importance of voting in the upcoming election. Chelsea urged everyone to register to vote and to turn out on November 8th saying that everyone has a vested interest in the election. “I didn’t know I could care anymore about politics until I was blessed to become a parent and found that I could, found everything I cared about before just has a sharper intensity,” she said. Chelsea then traveled to Racine, Wisconsin where she addressed a group of local residents at the Living Light Community Center. Chelsea spoke about a number of Hillary’s major platform points such as raising the minimum wage, passing comprehensive immigration reform, ensuring women receive equal pay, and supporting family medical leave. Chelsea also contrasted Hillary’s plans from those of Trump saying that Hillary has the background and bipartisan connections in Congress to get the job done. “If we look at areas where we already have a broad-base and bipartisan support, my mother has a record of building things together and getting things done. And she hopes that she will have the opportunity to demonstrate that action-oriented positive leadership as president,” she explained. A video from the Racine event is below.

In Chicago, Illinois, a fundraiser was held on behalf of Hillary for America. The event featured a conversation with former Secretary of State Madeleine Albright and Rick Bayless.

Hillary for America Canvasses the Country on National Voter Registration Day

September 27, 2016 is National Voter Registration Day and Hillary for America canvassed the country holding nearly 1,400 voter registration drives to ensure that Americans were registered to vote before their states’ deadlines. HFA released the following information outlining what they did today.

Following last night’s debate, Hillary Clinton, Tim Kaine and high profile surrogates are back on the campaign trail today, marking National Voter Registration Day by barnstorming battleground states to raise awareness of voter registration deadlines and to discuss the high stakes of the November election. With important voter registration deadlines coming up soon, Hillary for America is capitalizing on today’s national day of action by organizing nearly 1,400 local voter registration events in communities across the country.

Every election, millions of Americans don’t get to cast their ballot because they missed their state’s registration deadline or didn’t know how to register. Hillary for America will build off the excitement from the debate to talk about importance of registering to vote ahead of registration deadlines by holding local voter registration events across the country.

“Last night, families across the country tuned into the first presidential debate and witnessed just how high the stakes are in this election. Hillary Clinton will also take that message on the road, campaigning in four battleground states in the four days coming out of the debate: Raleigh, North Carolina on Tuesday, Durham, New Hampshire on Wednesday, Des Moines, Iowa on Thursday and southern Florida on Friday. Today, Senator Tim Kaine will campaign in Florida and Vice President Joe Biden will campaign in Philadelphia. President Bill Clinton will travel to Ohio and starts his bus tour in Florida on Friday. First Lady Michelle Obama will campaign in Philadelphia and Pittsburgh on Wednesday. Chelsea Clinton will visit in North Carolina on Wednesday and Wisconsin on Friday, and Anne Holton will campaign in Michigan on today and Wednesday, in Iowa on Thursday and Wisconsin and Friday

Hillary Clinton Statement on Fisher v. University of Texas at Austin

On Thursday, the United States Supreme Court ruled on a case that challenged the use of affirmative action in the college admission process (Fisher v. University of Texas at Austin). The 4-3 decision upheld the school’s right to use rules to racially diversify it’s campus. Hillary Clinton released a statement of support for the decision saying that it “means that universities can continue to make diversity and inclusion central goals of their admissions processes.” A full copy of Clinton’s statement is below:

“The Supreme Court’s decision today in Fisher v. University of Texas is a win for all Americans. It means that universities can continue to make diversity and inclusion central goals of their admissions processes, and means our college campuses will continue to be places where young adults of all backgrounds can learn from each other.

Having a student body with diverse experiences and perspectives breaks down barriers, enriches academia, and prepares our young people to be leaders and citizens in our increasingly diverse country. We need to guarantee that the doors to higher education are open not just to some, but to all—and that we are giving students equal opportunities to succeed and thrive. Today’s Supreme Court decision affirms a basic truth about our country: we are stronger together.”

Hillary Clinton Statement on the 4th Anniversary of DACA

On Wednesday, Hillary Clinton released a statement celebrating the 4th anniversary of the Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals (DACA) policy that has allowed many DREAMers to complete their education, enter the workforce, and build families. Republican Donald Trump has vowed to end DACA and programs like it thus removing a chance for the children of immigrants and undocumented workers to better themselves and becoming productive citizens. Clinton said that it is vital to our economy to ensure DREAMers are able to build better lives and join the workforce. They deserve that chance because the promise of the United States is that everyone can live up to their full potential. A copy of Clinton’s statement is below.

“Four years ago today, President Obama used his constitutional authority to change the lives of thousands of young people who call America home. Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals (DACA) has given DREAMers the freedom to provide for their families, further their educations, and live their lives without fear of being deported from the country they know and love. This policy is good for our economy–and it is true to our values as Americans. We are proud of our heritage as a nation of immigrants. We believe every young person deserves the chance to live up to his or her God-given potential. We know we are stronger together.

This anniversary also reminds us of how high the stakes are in this election. Right now, the United States Supreme Court is set to rule on the recent expansion of DACA and the creation of Deferred Action for Parents of Americans and Lawful Permanent Residents (DAPA).  I strongly believe that these executive actions that are rooted in law and precedent will be upheld, but the fate of these policies, and of the millions of people who were impacted by them, will be in the hands of the next President.

If Donald Trump is that president, he has pledged to eliminate DACA and DAPA on day one. He has said he will create a ‘deportation force’ to round up 11 million people. He will tear apart families, separate parents and children, rip young people out of school and workers from their jobs. He has even said he will undermine that most fundamental American value–that if you are born here, no matter who your parents are or where they came from, you are an American.

I believe America is stronger together. When we embrace immigrants, not denigrate them. When we protect families, not tear them apart. When we build bridges, not walls.

It is why I co-sponsored legislation to protect DREAMers throughout my time in the senate as well as legislation to enact comprehensive immigration reform, and it is why I will do everything in my power as president to protect President Obama’s executive actions, go further to provide relief for families, and introduce comprehensive immigration reform with a path to full and equal citizenship within my first 100 days in office.”

Hillary Clinton Speaks at Planned Parenthood Event

On Friday, Hillary Clinton gave her speech since becoming the first female presidential candidate to secure the nomination of a major political party. Speaking at the Planned Parenthood Action Fund Membership Event in Washington, DC, Clinton went after Republican Donald Trump for his comments on women and women’s rights. She thanked the organization for all the work they do for women and said that it is vital to keep sex education, access to contraceptives, and access to abortion available to everyone. She said, “We know that restricting access doesn’t make women less likely to end a pregnancy. It just makes abortion less safe.  And that then threatens women’s lives.” A full video of Clinton’s speech is below.

Clinton Endorsed by Planned Parenthood

Today, Hillary Clinton was endorsed by the Planned Parenthood Action Fund at a rally in Manchester, New Hampshire. Both Clinton and Planned Parenthood support women’s rights and women’s health, but the organization has been attacked by Republicans and others because many of Planned Parenthood’s clinics offer abortion services. After being introduced by Cecile Richards, Clinton gave a speech in which she promised to support Planned Parenthood against attacks and vowed to support women’s health services including birth control, mammograms, and sex education. She criticized Republicans and Congress for attempting to defund the organizing saying that it was a direct attack on women’s health. A full video from the event is available on C-SPAN.

Clinton Interviewed by Radio Iowa

Before beginning her series of town halls in Iowa, Clinton took time to speak with Radio Iowa via telephone. During the interview, Clinton spoke about the upcoming Iowa caucus, but the interview was focused on gun control and President Barack Obama’s plan to take executive action. Clinton promised that if elected, she would close the gun show loophole and enforce background check. She said, “I think we’re going to have to keep pushing forward on the political front and I intend to do that, to take on the gun lobby and to work with responsible gun owners, of which there are many millions who actually in large numbers support the common sense approaches that I’m advocating.”

Clinton Releases Plan to Protect LGBT Rights

Hillary Clinton has released her plans to fight for the rights of the LGBT community. She has previously said that “gay rights are human rights,” and her plan outlines a mix of legislation and support. The full details of the plan are available on The Briefing, but an outline is below:

• Fight for full federal equality for all LGBT Americans
  • Work with Congress to pass the Equality Act
  • Continue President Obama’s LGBT equality executive actions
  • Supper efforts underway to clarify that under federal statutes “sex discrimination” includes discrimination on the basis of “gender identity” and “sexual orientation”
• Support LGBT youth, parents, and elders
  • End discriminatory treatment of LGBT families in adoptions
  • Improve school climate for all students
  • End LGBT conversion therapy for minors
  • Combat youth homelessness
  • Ensure LGBT elders can retire with dignity and respect
  • Correct national data to better serve LGBT individuals and families
• Honor the military service of LGBT people
