Clinton Speaks about Diversity in Silicon Valley

Hillary Clinton returned to political form on Tuesday when she spoke at the Professional Business Women of California Conference in San Francisco, California. Clinton spoke to a crowd of over 3,500 before sitting down for a conversation with Susie Tompkins Buell. During her speech, Clinton spoke about the need for all Americans to resist the rhetoric of President Donald Trump and his administration. She also urged everyone to continue to fight against the repeal of the Affordable Care Act and contact Congress. She said, “Resist, insist, persist, enlist.”

The majority of her speech focused on diversity in the workplace and the need for equal pay for women and paid family leave. She urged the business leaders in the room, most of them from Silicon Valley, to lead the way forward in granting employees paid family leave and maternity leave. Clinton criticized the Trump administration and Congress for attempting to roll back health care coverage for women. She said that when the Republican health bill failed last week it “was a victory for all Americans.” But Clinton warned “the other side never quits. Soon or later they’ll try again, and we will need to fight back twice as hard.” Watch a video from the event below.

FBI Releases Additional Docs, State Releases Emails

Last week, the FBI and State Department released documents related to the investigation into Hillary Clinton’s use of a private email server during her tenure as Secretary of State. The FBI released 299 pages of internal records detailing a fight between the bureau and the State Department over the classification of an email regarding arrests related to the attacks on the US Embassy in Benghazi, Libya. The report includes internal emails as well as internal memos that shed additional light into the investigation of Clinton’s emails by the FBI. Read the report below or download a PDF copy HERE.

Meanwhile, the State Department released 371 of the 15,000 emails that were turned over to the department by the FBI. The total document dump totaled over 1,000 pages and are “near duplicates” of the documents turned over by Clinton’s team in 2014. The State Department has been reviewing the emails turned over by the FBI since late summer 2016 and has reported that about 60% of the emails were personal in nature and not related to business. Of the emails that relate to Clinton’s time as Secretary of State, the department reports that a “substantial number” of them are duplicates of those that have been previously reviewed. The State Department will continue to review and release the emails until all 15,000 have been examined. You can access the latest batch of emails by following the steps below:

Vice President Biden Campaigns in Florida on Eve of Election

On the eve of the election, Vice President Joe Biden returned to Florida where he spoke on the campus of Florida Agricultural and Mechanical University in Tallahassee. After being introduced by his wife, Jill, Biden spoke about the importance of voting before the end of the day tomorrow. He urged everyone to consider the future the country and the visions being outlined by Hillary Clinton and Donald Trump. Biden said that Clinton offers a platform that is far more optimistic and inclusive. He said that her plans are geared toward helping everyone and not just those at the top. Biden urged everyone to reject the divisive policies of Trump and vote for Clinton tomorrow. A video from the event is below.

Biden held his last solo campaign event for Clinton in St. Petersburg. During the event, Biden spoke about the vision Trump has for America and asked the audience to imagine living in that future. “We don’t have to make anything up; we just have to say what they want to push,” he said adding that it is doubtful that a Trump administration would continue Pell grants for college, repealing the Affordable Care Act would leave at least 20 million Americans without coverage, and his economic plans would ensure that those at the top prosper at the expense of the middle class. Biden then presented Clinton’s optimistic vision of the future before asking everyone to vote tomorrow. A video from the event is below.

Senator Sanders Campaigns for Hillary in Iowa, Colorado

Senator Bernie Sanders remained in Iowa this morning for a Get out the Vote rally in Ames. During his speech, Sanders spoke about the importance of electing Hillary Clinton saying, “Hillary Clinton has a very different perspective [and] she understands what Donald Trump does not understand.” He outlined a number of Clinton’s platform points including her plans to combat climate change, reform campaign finance, create jobs, raise the minimum wage, and make college more affordable. Sanders concluded by asking everyone to vote saying that the election is too important to sit out. “You don’t like Hillary Clinton? You Don’t like Donald Trump? Fine. You like yourself? Get beyond personality; that means taking a hard look at what the candidates stand for,” Sanders said. A video from the event is below.

Sanders then spoke at a Get out the Vote event in Colorado Springs. Sanders spoke about a number of the progressive points from Clinton’s platform including her proposals to raise the minimum wage, combat climate change, fix the Affordable Care Act, and make college at public institutions tuition free for students making less than $125,000 per year. He urged everyone to get out and vote on Tuesday and to encourage others to vote as well. “If you take two or three of your friends to the polls, you double or triple your impact,” he said. Hillary Clinton Statement on Las Vegas Trump Hotel Labor Law Violations

After an announcement by the National Labor Relations Board that the Trump International Hotel in Las Vegas was violating the National Labor Relations Act by refusing to bargain with the Culinary Workers Union after hotel employees voted to join the union last year, Hillary Clinton issued the following statement:

“Donald Trump likes to brag about his skills as a negotiator—but yesterday, he had to be ordered by the National Labor Relations Board to stop breaking the law, respect his workers’ fundamental rights to organize and bargain collectively, and come to the table. It’s appalling, but it’s not surprising. This is a man who personally signed a contract with a union-busting firm to try to stop UNITE HERE and the Culinary Workers’ Union from organizing in the first place, and engaged in a months-long intimidation campaign to bully his workers against voting to form a union.

I was proud to visit workers on the picket line at the Trump International Hotel in Las Vegas, and even prouder when they overcame Donald Trump’s intimidation campaign and were officially certified as a union earlier this year. I believe that when unions are strong, families are strong—and when families are strong, America is strong. And I will always stand with workers in protecting their rights to organize, bargain collectively, be safe on the job and retire with dignity, and if I am elected President, workers will always have a seat at the table and a champion in the White House.”

State Department Releases New Batch of Clinton’s Emails

Yesterday, the State Department released a new batch of emails from Hillary Clinton’s private server. These emails are part of a group of emails that were recovered by the FBI and turned over to the State Department for review. The release includes 1,280 pages and more are expected to be released on Friday. None of the newly released emails contained classified information and there are several duplicate emails from those already released by the State Department. The emails were released following an agreement between a federal court and the State Department stating that the emails would be reviewed and released prior to the election. To access the emails, follow the steps below:

The Choice is Clear: Hillary Will Fight For Women While Trump Belittles and Bullies Them

Hillary Clinton has been breaking new  ground and fighting for women her entire career. Before she made history becoming the first female nominee of a major party for president, Hillary led the U.S delegation to the U.N Fourth World Conference on Women in Beijing, where she proclaimed that “women’s rights are human rights.” As a senator from New York, she championed the Paycheck Fairness Act to help close the pay gap between women and men.

As President, Hillary will build on her record of fighting for women because although there has been tremendous strides when it comes to expanding opportunities for women there’s still much more work to be done. Donald Trump, however, has a very different record — he has spent his life, and this campaign, demeaning women.

Throughout this campaign, we’ve seen many examples of Trump’s alarming words and deeds towards women like his revolting comments on a bus caught on tape, his repeated behavior insulting and degrading women who stood up to him, his bragging about walking in on nude pageant contestants, some of whom were apparently under aged, his jokes objectifying women, and more.

It’s clear Trump’s dangerous proposals would take us backwards.  Over the course of the campaign, we’ve watched Trump dismiss women in the workplace and say that women who choose to have abortions should be “punished.”

Trump’s policies on women and dangerous rhetoric  have demonstrated he is unfit to be President of the United States. With one week left of the presidential campaign, here is a recap of  Trump’s history of belittling and bullying women:

MISOGYNISTIC AND OFFENSIVE RHETORIC

Trump has talked disparagingly about women — calling them pigs and rating their bodies on a 1 to 10 scale.  From his revolting nicknames to his lewd comments, Trump’s rhetoric about women is inexcusable.

• Trump: referred to a pageant contestant as “Miss Piggy” and “Miss Housekeeping,” and then doubled down years later saying “she gained a massive amount of weight.”
• Trump on Carly Fiorina: “Look at that face! … Would anyone vote for that? Can you imagine that, the face of our next president?!”
• Trump: “A person who is flat-chested is very hard to be a 10,” he told Howard Stern.
• Trump: “But whenever she sees me, she kisses my ass. She’s disgusting.”
• Trump: “There’s a lot of women out there that demand that the husband act like the wife.”
• Trump: “And when you’re a star, they let you do it. You can do anything.”
• Trump: “[I]t doesn’t really matter what [the media] write as long as you’ve got a young and beautiful piece of ass
• Trump: It is “rare” that women are both “very beautiful” and have high IQs
• Trump: “Did you see that woman? She had an amazing body, but a schoolmarm’s face”
• Trump on women:  “You have to treat ‘em like shit.’”
• Trump on Hillary Clinton: “Do you think she looks presidential? I don’t think so”

WRONG ON WOMEN IN THE WORKPLACE

Donald Trump has a long history of demeaning women in the workplace and has said that “putting a wife to work is a very dangerous thing” – so it’s no surprise that he has a bad record when it comes to hiring women and supporting equal pay.

• Trump’s campaign staff was 75 percent men.
• Trump’s campaign paid women less than men.
• When Trump was asked why his campaign paid women less than men, he replied that in his business salaries were based on “talent.”
• Trump’s public companies have had very few women in senior roles: only 6 of 59 of Trump’s casino executives were women.
• Trump to a young women asking about equal pay: “You’re going to make the same if you do as good a job”
• Trump on what employing mothers can mean for a business: “She’s not giving one hundred percent, she’s giving me eighty-four percent”
• Trump said pregnancy was an “inconvenience” for employers
• Trump called a working mother “disgusting” for requesting a break to go pump breast milk
• Trump claimed to offer childcare for his employees, but it was actually a program for resort guests

WRONG ON REPRODUCTIVE FREEDOM

Donald Trump opposes basic reproductive rights and even said he believes women should be subject to “punishment” for having an abortion.

• Trump on whether women should be punished for having abortions: “There has to be some form of punishment”
• Trump would appoint Supreme Court justices who would overturn Roe v. Wade “automatically” if he’s elected
• Trump called for shutting down the government to defund Planned Parenthood
• Trump called requiring contraceptive coverage in the Affordable Care Act “very bad.”

MINIMIZING PROBLEM OF SEXUAL HARASSMENT

Trump’s preferred way of talking about women appears to extend into the Trump Organization as well, spurring a raft of discrimination and harassment lawsuits against Trump and his companies.

• At least 20 lawsuits accused Trump and his companies of discriminating against women, ignoring sexual harassment or participating in harassment
• Two former Trump employees allege they were fired after complaining about harassment at work
• One former Trump employee says she was fired for complainingabout discrimination after she became pregnant
• Trump suggested women who were sexually harassed should find another job
• On sexual assault in the military, Trump said “what did these geniuses expect when they put men and women together”

UNDER FIRE FOR SEXUAL MISCONDUCT

Trump has bragged about sexually assaulting women and suggests that his determination of whether or not a woman is worth assaulting is based on their attractiveness.

• Trump bragged about sexually assaulting women
• Trump claimed to be the victim but multiple women say Trump’s words match his behavior
• Twelve women have publicly accused Trump of sexual assault
• Trump said the sexual assault described on tape was just “locker room talk“
• Trump lashed out at women accusing him of sexual assault and said his accusers were not attractive enough to assault
• Trump said his accusers were “sick” and coming forward for fame or money
• Trump promised to sue his accusers

Bill Clinton Encourages Early Voting in Florida

Bill Clinton returned to Florida on Tuesday where he campaigned for Hillary Clinton at three events. His first event was in Florida City where he told a crowd of supporters that Hillary Clinton is, by far, the best candidate for president and that countless military and national security experts agree. “They know what the real security issue is. The real security issue is having somebody who will keep you safe and strong while we can grow our way together,” he said. Bill focused on Hillary’s plans to ensure that Americans are able to prosper together, and he outlined her plans to create jobs, grow the economy, and make college more affordable. He concluded by asking everyone to vote on election day or to vote early. A video of Bill’s speech is below.

Bill then traveled to Immokalee where he was greeted by supporters. Bill is the first former president to every visit the town. He spoke about the stark differences between Hillary and her opponent, Republican Donald Trump, saying that her plans focus on everyday people, and not those at the top. Bill touted Hillary’s plans to ensure college is affordable for everyone, improve the Affordable Care Act, and create jobs by investing in infrastructure, manufacturing, and clean energy. Again, Bill concluded stressing the importance of voting saying, “The most important thing you can do is to vote and take your friends to vote. Do it today tomorrow and every day through Election Day. If enough people who are for Hillary turn out, she’ll win Florida, and she’ll be the next president.” A video from the event is below.

Bill’s final stop of the day was in St. Petersburg where he focused on Hillary’s platform points and the divisive nature of Trump’s campaign. Bill outlined a number of Hillary’s key policies including her plans to create jobs and ensure an equal opportunity for every American to succeed. He then contrasted that vision with Trump’s saying that the racist undertones of Trump’s campaign are becoming more obvious. “As a 70-year-old Southerner, I know what will make America great again,” Clinton said implying that Trump will make it difficult for anyone who is not white. Bill concluded his speech by encouraging everyone to vote saying, “If people who are for Hillary, vote for Hillary, she’ll win Florida and be our next president.” Watch a video of the rally below.

HFA Highlights Hillary Clinton’s 30 Year Career

Donald Trump is eager to talk about the last 30 years and Hillary Clinton, too, is eager to discuss her three decades of experience and public service. Clinton has dedicated her life to serving others, while Trump has spent decades trying to get ahead at the expense of others. Today, Hillary for America is launch a new website offering a side-by-side comparison of what they were each doing at various times in their lives.  Their records show that there’s only one candidate in this race who truly puts the American people first: Hillary Clinton.

In the 1970s and 80s:

• Clinton’s first job out of law school was with the Children’s Defense Fund, and one of her first tasks was going door to door to figure out why so many children were missing school. The evidence she helped gather was presented to Congress to build the case for the passage of the law that ensures all children with disabilities have access quality education. Later, while a law professor at the University of Arkansas, Clinton founded a legal aid clinic to help low-income children and families in need of legal representation. And as First Lady of Arkansas, she chaired the state’s Education Standards Committee, working to improve the quality of schools and give every child a chance to succeed.

• Trump was President of his dad’s real estate company and the family business when it was sued by the Justice Department for refusing to rent apartments to African Americans in New York City and Virginia. The lawsuit unearthed a disturbing pattern among employees of Trump’s real estate company, who appeared to systematically deny applications to aspiring black renters.  Trump borrowed at least $14 million from his father for his real estate empire.

In the 1990s:

• Clinton worked with Democrats and Republicans to pass the Children’s Health Insurance Program, which insures more than 8 million American kids today. She traveled to China to give a bold, landmark address affirming women’s rights.

• Trump refused to pay contractors on some of his biggest projects and was sued for fraud repeatedly– like Marty Rosenberg, whose family business was paid less than half for its work at Trump’s casino. No business person or contractor proved too small for Trump to stiff. Trump claimed such large losses on his tax returns that he possibly avoided paying federal income taxes for up to 18 years. Trump insulted women for their appearances, calling a former Miss Universe an “eating machine.”

In the 2000s:

• After 9/11, Clinton immediately got to work fighting for first responders and emergency workers. She introduced a bill to speed up the payment of benefits to families of public safety officers who died in the line of duty on 9/11 and it became law a few days later. In 2006, she introduced the Heroes at Home Act to aid veterans with post-traumatic stress or traumatic brain injuries.

• In the Senate, Clinton also worked on improving access to health care and making it more affordable. She fought for Medicare to be able to negotiate for fair drug prices, supported getting generic drugs to market faster, and consistently backed safe prescription drug importation from other countries. She co-authored and worked to pass the Pediatric Research Equity Act, which forced drug companies to conduct pediatric tests on products prescribed for kids. “She also worked on economic issues for New York State, co-founding the bipartisan Senate manufacturing caucus and fighting for New York’s strong manufacturing base and steel industry.

• At the same time, Trump took $150,000 from a program designed to help small businesses in the aftermath of 9/11 and spent years lying about both his personal attachment to 9/11 and his commitment to helping New York recover. Trump also spent his time cheating more than 5,000 students at his scam Trump University and running a sham charitable foundation that spent money on non-charitable expenses like a portrait of himself and personal legal fees, and failed to properly register to raise money in the State of New York. It was reported that Trump repeatedly demeaned a crew member working on The Apprentice and used misogynistic language about female contestants.

In the 2010s:

• Clinton served as Secretary of State. She built the toughest sanctions regime in history on Iran, twisting arms in China, Russia, and dozens of other countries, to force Iran to the negotiating table. And when pressure started working, she sent her closest aides to explore a diplomatic opening that led to a  deal cutting off Iran’s path to a nuclear weapon. She personally negotiated an end to Hamas rockets raining down on Israel in 2012 and worked to build stronger defense programs for Israel, including upgrading the Iron Dome rocket defense system. She worked to ensure ratification of the New START treaty, which will make the world safer by reducing the number of deployed U.S. and Russian strategic nuclear weapons. She fought to make women’s rights a priority in international relations, stood up against sex trafficking of women and children, and led the fight for a UN Security Council resolution to combat sexual violence against women and children around the world that passed unanimously. She advised President Obama on the decision to bring Osama bin Laden to justice — and on May 1, 2011, she was in the Situation Room as the operation unfolded.

The same night as Clinton advised President Obama on the Osama bin Laden raid, Trump was busy appearing on an episode of The Celebrity Apprentice. Trump has spent this decade peddling shameful lies about President Obama’s nationality as the leader of the birther movement; making a deal with Gaddafi to set up a tent on Trump’s property; filing for bankruptcy at Trump Plaza; fighting fraud suits over Trump University; and doling out illegal campaign donations from his sham charitable foundation.

HFA Releases Series of New Videos and Ads

On Monday, Hillary for America released a new round of commercials and ads. The first is a TV ad titled “Arrogant” that goes after Donald Trump following the weekend’s report that he has not paid taxes for years. The next three videos highlight the record of Mike Pence and draw parallels between Pence and Trump. Then, a video featuring prominent African-American actors talking about what is at stake in this election for the African-American community. Next, is an ad titled “Measure” that highlights Hillary Clinton’s career fighting for children and families. The next video, titled “Shane,” introduces a man who talks about his experience in the foster care system and how, as First Lady, Clinton helped pass the Adoption and Safe Families Act. Then, actress Selma Hayak is in a Spanish language ad underscoring the importance of the election for the Latino community. The next is a radio ad that highlights Trump’s business dealings with Cuba during the embargo. The final ad is a Spanish language radio ad that talks about how Trump treated hotels in his hotels like “second class workers.” Watch, and listen, to the ads below.
