State Department Releases Emails from FBI Investigation

Earlier this week, the State Department released 362 of the 15,000 emails that were turned over to the department by the FBI. The total document dump totaled over 1,000 pages and are “near duplicates” of the documents turned over by Clinton’s team in 2014. The State Department has been reviewing the emails turned over by the FBI since late summer and has reported that about 60% of the emails were personal in nature and not related to business. Of the emails that relate to Clinton’s time as Secretary of State, the department reports that a “substantial number” of them are duplicates of those that have been previously reviewed. The State Department will continue to review and release the emails until all 15,000 have been examined. You can access the latest batch of emails by following the steps below:

3. Click on the arrow next to the “Posted Date” column header and select “Sort Descending” so that the recently released documents show first

HFA Supports Bipartisan Efforts to Extend Voting Hours in Durham County

Hillary for America Campaign Manager Robby Mook released the following statement in support of bipartisan efforts to extend voting hours in Durham County, NC:

“The Durham County Board of Elections — made up of two Republicans and one Democrat — has agreed that voting hours must be extended due to technical problems that occurred earlier today. We are urging the North Carolina Board of Elections to heed this bipartisan call and approve this urgent measure so that every voter can have their voice heard. Especially in light of the fact that Durham County had limited early voting sites, we have to ensure that voters have equal access to the ballot box.”

State Department Releases New Batch of Clinton’s Emails

Yesterday, the State Department released a new batch of emails from Hillary Clinton’s private server. These emails are part of a group of emails that were recovered by the FBI and turned over to the State Department for review. The release includes 1,280 pages and more are expected to be released on Friday. None of the newly released emails contained classified information and there are several duplicate emails from those already released by the State Department. The emails were released following an agreement between a federal court and the State Department stating that the emails would be reviewed and released prior to the election. Tim Kaine Campaigns at Penn State University

Tim Kaine returned to Pennsylvania on Friday where he campaigned on the campus of Penn State University. Speaking to a large crowd, Kaine outlined what President Hillary Clinton would focus on if elected president. He spoke about her plans to build the economy, give small businesses access to more resources, promote equality and access, and create new jobs by investing in the country’s infrastructure and manufacturing sector. Kaine also spoke about college affordability and ensuring that those currently repaying student loans can refinance their debt at lower interest rates. He also spoke about Clinton’s plan to guarantee that future students graduate debt-free. On student loans, Kaine said, “You should not have to mortgage your future to prepare for your future.” Watch a video of Kaine’s speech below.

Hillary Clinton Announces Plan to Combat High Prescription Drug Prices

On Friday, Hillary Clinton announced a plan to combat the rising cost of prescription drugs, particularly the excessive rise in costs of live saving prescriptions like the EpiPen. Clinton’s plan would create a federal team to monitor drug prices and track increases. Her plan also provides several actions the government could take when drug prices have been raised excessively such as fines and increased access to treatment programs. An outline of Clinton’s proposal is below, and the full plan can be read on The Briefing.

• Making alternatives available and increasing competition
• Emergency importation of safe treatments
• Penalties for unjustified price increases to hold drug companies accountable and fund expanded access
• Dedicated oversight to protect consumers
• Strong new enforcement measures to respond when there are unjustified, outlier price increases that threaten public health
  • Directly intervening to make treatments available, and supporting generic and alternative manufacturers that enter the market and increase competition to bring down prices
  • Broadening access to safe, high-quality generic and alternative competitors through emergency importation
  • Holding drug makers accountable for unjustified price increases with new penalties – and using the funds to expand access and competition
• Cap monthly and annual out-of-pocket costs for prescription drugs to save patients with chronic or serious health conditions hundreds or thousands of dollars
• Clear out the FDA generic backlog
• Prohibit “pay for delay” arrangements that keep generic competition off the market
• Ensure American consumers are getting value for their drugs
• Stop direct-to-consumer drug company advertising subsidies, and reinvest funds in research
• Require drug companies that benefit from taxpayers’ support to invest in research, not marketing or profits
• Allow Medicare to negotiate drug and biologic prices and demand higher rebates for prescription drugs in Medicare

How to Access Clinton’s FOIA Emails

The release of Hillary Rodham Clinton’s emails during her tenure as Secretary of State has certainly made headlines, and Clinton has said on several occasions that she wants the emails available to the public in the interest of transparency. News organizations release quotes from a few of her emails, but many average Americans have asked how they can read the emails from home. Since the release of the emails is part of the Freedom of Information Act (FOIA), all the emails are being posted to the State Department’s FOIA website. To access the emails that have been released so far, follow the steps below:

1. Go to http://foia.state.gov/Search
2. Type “Hillary Clinton” in the Search Terms field
3. You will get results with a mix of emails and other documents
4. Click on the arrow next to the “Posted Date” column header and select “Sort Descending” so that the recently released documents show first
5. Click the title of the document in the “Subject” field to open a PDF copy

As of this posting, the search yields 3,445 emails and documents, and this number is going to continue to grow. The State Department will release batches of Clinton’s emails at the end of each month through the end of 2015. A total of 30,490 were turned over to the State Department, so this is going to be a long process.
