On Thursday morning, Hillary Rodham Clinton appeared on “Live! with Kelly and Michael” where she was interviewed by hosts Kelly Ripa and Michael Strahan. The three of them spoke about the recent terrorist attacks in Paris and ISIS threatening New York City. Clinton was asked if their threats should be taken seriously, and she said, “I think you always have to take them seriously. One thing that you just have to accept is that when they make threats, they may be some distance from being able to deliver on those threats themselves, but they’re hoping that some discontented person or group right here in our country will hear that threat.”

Clinton was also asked about her thoughts on Republican presidential candidate Donald Trump, how she was a part of husband and former president Bill Clinton’s administration, and what Clinton’s Thanksgiving plans were. Clips from today’s episode are below.

In the afternoon, Clinton attended a private fundraiser in New York City. Details are not available as the press does not attend private fundraisers.

Clinton also attended the DOC NYC Festival where she introduced the closing film, “MAKERS: Once and For All.” The documentary was produced by AOL and directed by Michael Epstein and Dyllan McGee. The films title is from Clinton’s Bejing speech in 1995, which the films celebrates the 20th anniversary of. Clinton was impressed with the film saying, “I have to say that when Dyllan took on this project, I had no idea what she would find. You will see footage in this film that no one’s ever seen—and I don’t know where she got it.” A trailer for the documentary is below.

On Friday, Clinton will attend a number of events in Kentucky and Tennessee. For all the latest, follow our Scheduled Events page and follow Clinton on Twitter, Facebook, and Instagram.

Clinton Speaks About Voting Right in Alabama

3604bbf162e341deb7c77de62bb447ac-7f4bbeea50d946f7a12756ae64203b9c-0On Saturday, Hillary Rodham Clinton spoke at the Alabama Democrat Conference in Hoover. She addressed the issues plaguing the state of Alabama including the fact that the state opted not to expand Medicaid under the Affordable Care Act. She focused on Gov. Robert Bentley and the state legislature making it more difficult to vote in the state saying, “Here in Alabama, without the right kind of ID, it’s nearly impossible to vote. I followed when Gov. Bentley and his administration closed 31 driver’s license offices across the state. They include every county where African Americans make up 75 percent of the voters. The closings will make getting license and personal identification cards much harder for many African Americans, particularly the elderly, erecting a big barrier to voting.”

Clinton is calling for the restoration of the Voting Rights Act that was gutted by the Supreme Court. Clinton also spoke about making college more affordable for those who want to go and attend a state school. She spoke about other aspects of her platform including investing in renewable energy, raising the minimum wage, lowering the cost of prescription drugs, helping small businesses, and introducing measures to curb gun violence. A full video of the speech will be posted when/if available.

Before attending the Alabama Democrat Conference, Clinton attended a private fundraiser hosted by Representative Terri Sewell in Birmingham. As with all private events, it was closed to the press.

Tomorrow, Clinton is scheduled to attend the New York City premier of Once and For All, a documentary about the 1995 Beijing Women’s Conference. For all the latest, follow our Scheduled Events page and follow Clinton on Twitter, Facebook, and Instagram.

Women in the World Summit

Thursday, April 23, 2015

Hillary Rodham Clinton gave the keynote address at the Women in the World Summit in New York City. In her first public speech since announcing her campaign for president, Clinton spoke about the struggles of women and girls to achieve equal rights and had strong words for her critics and political opponents. The speech was reminiscent of her famous “women’s rights are human rights” speech in 1995.

In her address, she criticized the delay of the appointment of Loretta Lynch as Attorney General and then, without naming names, she began calling out political opponents saying, “There are those who offer themselves as leaders … who see nothing wrong with denying women equal pay, who offer themselves as leaders who would de-fund the country’s leading provider of family planning and want to let health insurance companies once again charge women just because of our gender. There are those who offer themselves as leaders who would deport mothers working to give their children a better life, rather than risk the ire of talk radio.”

Clinton concluded by saying that there was still much work to be done in the realm of equal rights in the United States and around the world. But she expressed her optimism that equal rights can be achieved.
