Thursday was a full day on the campaign trail with ten events being held on behalf of Hillary Clinton across the country and around the world. Clinton’s running mate, Time Kaine, held a rally in Reno, Nevada where he spoke to supporters at the University of Nevada Reno. During his speech, Kaine spoke about a variety of Clinton’s proposals including her plans to combat climate change, reduce the cost of higher education, equal rights for women and members of the LGBTQ community, and paid leave. As he spoke, Kaine compared Clinton’s views with those of Donald Trump saying that he cannot be trusted. “People who trust Trump tend to get hurt by Trump,” he said. A video of Kaine’s speech is below.

Kaine’s wife, Anne Holton, was in Ohio where she took part in four events. Holton began in Trotwood where she held a discussion on the topic of Veterans and Military Families. She spoke about Clinton’s plans to improve the Department of Veterans Affairs and ensure that military families were cared for while their loved one serves their country. In Columbus, Holton focused on early childhood education during a visit to Childhood League Center. Holton, the former Secretary of Education for Virginia, spent time with a preschool class and spoke with educators. At Holton’s final events of the day, in Delaware and Zanesville, she spoke with supporters about a number of Clinton’s platform points. Videos from the events will be added when/if available.

Hillary Clinton Statement on Protecting and Restoring the Great Lakes

Hillary_for_America_2016_logo.svg

Before the start of the annual Great Lakes Restoration Conference in Sandusky, Ohio, Hillary Clinton released the following statement supporting the restoration and preservation of the Great Lakes region. A copy of Clinton’s statement is below.

“The Great Lakes are national treasures–powering regional economies, providing drinking water to tens of millions of Americans, and providing unparalleled outdoor recreation. But the Great Lakes are facing serious stresses, from pollution to toxic algal blooms to the spread of invasive species.

Clean water is not a luxury–it’s a basic right of all Americans. As President, I will fight to protect drinking water, including by investing in modernizing our outdated drinking and wastewater infrastructure, and supporting the Great Lakes Restoration Initiative.

And I will promote conservation and collaborative stewardship of our natural resources, including the Great Lakes. I will set a goal of doubling the size of the outdoor economy within a decade–which will benefit communities all around the Great Lakes. And I will support collaborative approaches to protect our environment, like the agreement between Ohio, Michigan, and Ontario to reduce nutrient pollution that contributes to harmful algal blooms.

Together, we can protect the Great Lakes and America’s public lands and waters for future generations.”

HFA Statement on Donald Trump’s Russian Business Interests

Following reports of Donald Trump’s business dealing in Russia, Hillary for America Deputy Communications Director Christina Reynolds released the following statement:

“Despite his effort to hide his business dealings, we now know that Donald Trump has profited from hundreds of millions of dollars from Russian interests.  These alarming financial ties present a possible motive for his otherwise puzzling pro-Putin policies such as his openness to lifting sanctions against Russia that currently inhibit money making opportunities for corporations like the Trump Organization.  This is precisely what more than fifty national security experts warned against when they called on Trump to disclose and divest his conflict-laden foreign assets that could endanger America’s national security.  Unless Donald Trump immediately details all his business connections with Russia and every other foreign nation, we will never know what is driving his decision making: the interests of the American people or his own bottom line.”
