Hillary Clinton Endorsed by IFPTE

On Thursday, the International Federation of Professional and Technical Engineers (IFPTE) endorsed Hillary Clinton for President of the United States. In their release, President Gregory Junemann said, “She is also solidly in the corner of working Americans, as is reflected in her opposition to the damaging Trans-Pacific Partnership, and her strong support for collective bargaining rights.” Clinton responded to the endorsement by releasing a statement saying that she is “honored to have earned the endorsement,” and she vows to work with the IFPTE to ensure American workers are protected. “I am honored to have earned the endorsement of the International Federation of Professional and Technical Engineers.

In both the public and private sectors, the diverse members of IFPTE have helped build the mighty American middle class–standing up for workers’ fundamental right to organize and bargain collectively, opposing trade deals that have benefited big corporations at the expense of working families, and demanding the fair pay and respect American workers deserve.

As President, I will fight alongside IFPTE to protect workers’ rights to organize free from corporate intimidation, to oppose the Trans Pacific Partnership and build a level playing field so American workers can compete and win in the global economy, and to stand up for the dignity of all workers in the public and private sectors. As President, IFPTE and organized labor will always have a champion in the White House and a seat at the table–because when unions are strong, families are strong, and when families are strong, America is strong.”

Hillary Clinton Wraps up Three Days of Campaigning in California

On Thursday, Hillary Clinton wrapped up a three day campaign trip to California. She began in Las Vegas, Nevada, however, where she attended the United Food & Commercial Workers (UFCW) Legislative and Political Affairs Conference. During her speech, Clinton said that Republican nominee Donald Trump is an urgent threat to workers’ rights. She said, “I’ve heard over and over again there has never been more at stake for working families in America than there is right now.” Clinton spoke about her plans to support labor unions, grow the middle class, and focus on the creation of new jobs. Clinton then traveled to San Jose where she spoke at an organizing event. She spoke about Trump again and since he is now the Republican nominee as he has secured the required number of delegates, the stakes of the 2016 election could not be higher. She spoke about a number of her platform points including defending women’s rights, fighting for equal pay, raising the minimum wage, continuing to improve the Affordable Care Act, and lowering the cost of higher education. Clinton then asked for voters’ support during the primary on June 7.

Clinton’s final event of the day was a Get Out the Vote event in San Francisco. During the event, Clinton focused on the issues and her platform proposals. She spoke about making college debt free, making community colleges free, raising the minimum wage, investing in clean energy, and continuing to improve the health care system. Clinton went on to explain why the 2016 election is so important and why electing a Democrat is so important. “Our economy does better when we have a Democrat in the White House,” she said. Meanwhile, Chelsea Clinton attended a fundraiser on behalf of Hillary for America in New York City.

Hillary Clinton Endorsed by the UAW

On Wednesday, Hillary Clinton received the endorsement of the United Auto Workers (UAW). During their announcement, the union cited Clinton’s “lifelong commitment to the job security of American families, and her ability to unify and win in November” as the reason for their support. Clinton responded by issuing a statement saying that she is “honored” to received the UAW’s endorsement. A copy of Clinton’s statement is below.

“I am honored to have received the endorsement of the United Autoworkers and their more than 400,000 members.

Every day, the UAW shows us that we can and we will ‘Make it in America.’ The U.S. auto industry has come roaring back from the great recession and just posted its best year ever—because the U.S. auto industry has the world’s best, hardest-working, most innovative and most creative workforce.

We need to keep going—and we need a President who will always stand with working families. Today, about one in five cars built in North America come from Mexico—double the share in 2004. That’s why autoworkers need more than tough talk on trade. They need a President who knows how to compete and win for American workers. I have said for years that I want to see NAFTA renegotiated to give American workers a level playing field. And we need to take on new challenges, like weak auto “rules of origin” standards that provide a backdoor for Chinese steel and other products into the U.S. We’re going to throw the book at China and stop them from cheating American workers.

As President, I will stand with the United Autoworkers in protecting workers’ fundamental right to organize and bargain collectively, including in their fight to organize the VW plant in Chattanooga. And we need to make sure that the jobs of the future, including in clean energy and clean transportation, are good union jobs that can’t be outsourced. If I am fortunate enough to be elected President, organized labor will always have a champion in the White House and a seat at the table—because when unions are strong, families are strong, and when families are strong, America is strong.”
