Hillary Rodham Clinton gave a speech at Florida International University in Miami today in which she said, “It’s time for [GOP] leaders to either get on board or get out of the way. The Cuba embargo needs to go, once and for all.” Clinton called on Congress to vote to officially end the Cuban trade embargo. She also called for increasing business with Cuba and Latin America in general. The United States has a record of looking east and west as part of its foreign policy, but does not look toward Cuba and Latin America.

Hillary Rodham Clinton spoke at the National Urban League Conference in Fort Lauderdale, Florida. Clinton spoke to a group of African-American leaders right before Republican presidential candidate Jeb Bush, and she took full advantage of it. While she did not mention him by name, she called out his record on race relations by calling out his campaign slogan and PAC, “Right to Rise.” Clinton said, “People can’t rise if they can’t afford health care. They can’t rise if the minimum wage is too low to live on. They can’t rise if their governor makes it harder for them to get a college education.”
She also spoke about the excessive use of force by law enforcement when confronting African-American suspects, and the continued issue of race discrimination saying, “We can’t go on like this. We are better than this. Things must change.” The full video of Clinton’s speech is below.

After releasing a false story about a criminal investigation into the use of a personal email server by former Secretary of State Hillary Rodham Clinton, the Clinton campaign has released an open letter criticizing the inaccurate reporting by The New York Times. The letter, penned by communications director Jennifer Palmieri, was directed to Dean Baquet, the executive editor. The story originally said that the Department of Justice had been urged to open a criminal investigation. The story was later corrected to indicate the investigation was not criminal in nature but was a “security referral.”
In the letter, Palmieri wrote about the lack of response time given to the campaign by the news organization and she questioned the sources used for the article. She concluded by saying, “In closing, I wish to emphasize our genuine wish to have a constructive relationship with The New York Times. But we also are extremely troubled by the events that went into this erroneous report, and will be looking forward to discussing our concerns related to this incident so we can have confidence that it is not repeated in the future.”
Today, Bill and Hillary Clinton released their tax returns from 2007-2014. Over the last 8 years, the Clintons paid $43.8 million in taxes with a tax rate of 35.7% in 2014. The Clintons also reported donating roughly 10% of their income to charity. Due to the requirements of candidates, the Clintons have released several times over the years. To date, the Clintons have released 38 years of tax returns.

Hillary Rodham Clinton visited the AFL-CIO in Maryland today seeking the group’s endorsement. The labor organization has been reluctant to throw their support behind any candidate this early in the primary, but Clinton is hoping to get their support. She focused on increasing the minimum wage. “I think it is important that we set a national minimum, but then we get out of the way of cities and states that believe that they can and should go higher,” she told reporters following the visit.
Following the event, Clinton spoke with reporters where she answered a number of questions, including one about the recent attempts by Congress to defund Planned Parenthood. Clinton criticized the efforts saying, “I think it is regrettable that Republicans are once again trying to undermine, even end those services that so many women have needed and taken advantage of. I think that it’s another effort by the Republicans to try to limit the health care options of women and we should not let them succeed once again.”

She was asked to answer questions about her background, greatest strength, greatest weakness, and positions on a number of topics. For her strengths, Clinton said, “My greatest strength is my passionate commitment to helping people — and I feel so strongly that I had a lot of opportunities and that there are people, particularly women, who are just as talented and hardworking, but who haven’t had the same chances that I had. And one of the reasons why in all of my economic policies that I am talking about in this campaign I really put women at the center — and it’s not just because I am one — it’s because when women succeed, families do better, America does better… I think that a lot of my commitment and my strength is because I don’t quit, I stay focused, and I work hard to try to contribute to making life better for all of us.”

Hillary Rodham Clinton attended two fundraisers today in two different states. In Scranton, Pennsylvania, she attended a private fundraiser. Clinton is well known in the community as the city is the childhood home of her father, Hugh Rodham. She also attended a fundraiser at the Radisson Hotel in Corning, New York. The event was hosted by Corning CEO Wendell Weeks and Corning Chief Financial Officer James Flaws. As with all private fundraisers, the events were not open to the press.

Hillary Rodham Clinton returned to New Hampshire on Tuesday for a town hall event in Nashua. The event comes one day after Clinton unveiled her climate plans. During the town hall event, she was asked a number of questions, but the one question that she continues to refuse to answer is regarding the Keystone Pipeline. She has been pressed to give a yes or no answer, but she said, “This is President Obama’s decision and I’m not going to second-guess him. In Des Moines, Iowa Hillary Rodham Clinton outlined her plans to combat climate change and invest in clean energy after touring green-certified transit station. In her plan, she called for cutting incentives to oil companies, extending tax credits for clean energy development, and continued investment in solar and wind energy. Clinton indicated that her plan would move the economy toward decarbonization by 2050 and provide enough renewable energy sources to power every American home by 2027.
The plan is ambitious, and she said that in the coming weeks she will outline plans to pay for the changes she is planning on making. She said, “A lot of these changes will pay for themselves. So there will be front-end money needed. But there are ways of making those investments and getting a return on those investments that will redound to the benefits of the American taxpayer. So I will be talking about energy and climate security, modernizing North American infrastructure, about safe and responsible production, especially making sure tax payers get a fair deal for development on public lands and areas that I think are too sensitive for production that should be taken off the table.”

Yesterday, Clinton kicked off a three-day visit to Iowa by attending a campaign event in Winterset, Iowa where she spoke with supporters then answered questions from reporters. A number of questions were about allegations that Clinton sent and received classified information on her private email server as Secretary of State and a possible investigation by the Department of Justice. She denies the claims saying, “I am confident I never sent nor received any information that was classified at the time it was sent and received. What I think you’re seeing is a very typical kind of discussion to some extent, disagreement among various parts of the government over what should or what should not be publicly released.”

Today, Clinton gave a speech in Ames at an organizing event where she previewed her plans to combat climate change and her commitment to clean energy. Tomorrow, Clinton will provide full details of her plan in a speech in Des Moines. In her preview, Clinton took the opportunity to criticize the Republican presidential candidates who deny climate change is a reality saying, “Those people on the other side, they will answer any question about climate change by saying I’m not a scientist. I’m not a scientist either—I’m just a grandmother with two eyes and a brain…I know that if we start addressing it, we’re going to actually be creating jobs and new businesses.”
